Pacman is being greedy

Pacquaio vs. Hatton, finally the drama comes to an end.  Pacquiao’s advisors or should I say greediness were saying they wouldn’t take the fight against Hatton unless Pacman gets 60% of the purse. That’s something I don’t like about this beautiful sport, every one wants more than the other, yes Pacquiao is one of the sport’s most popular fighters, but despite the one-sided victory he scored, he’s still not De La Hoya.

Despite Oscar De La Hoya’s previous loses, the Golden Boy is and will continue to be a money maker and I personally think no one can top that.

Arum and Schaefer worked a 50-50 purse split, a reasonable deal given the huge money Hatton brings to the table from his native Great Britain.

Arum spoke with Pacquiao’s advisors and said they have come to an agreement and will accept the 50-50 split of the purse, the fight will take place on May 2.

Do you think an even split was fair?

  1. manny is like an animal with strong reflexes… although he beat the ass of all fighters he faced, thats all about it…. but the decisions of who to fight and other bla bla bla in boxing world is being decided by what so called his TEAM… Manny cannot even spell the word PHILIPPINES correctly. Some member of his what so called TEAM really dont mind about pacman’s welfare. They only want MONEY and only for themselves…. Inside their hearts they dont care about Manny. HOw sad………BOBOY FERNANDEZ IS EXEMPTED
The What so called Manny’s ADVISERS advises him to cope up with their own greed… They even told Manny to run for Congress even though Manny doesnt know what congress is… They are making script of what manny will say everytime he speaks on TV.. They are turning Manny to something not worthy of what he did and who he is..
They are using Manny for their own interest…. You should respect him with all your hearts. The only reason why Manny got to boxing is because of extreme poverty.,,, Giving glory to his country is secondary.. HOw can you say fighting for your country and always talking about money… Hatton is the best opponent… 50/50 is a good deal….
Manny is human too.. He’s putting his life in danger everytime he enters that ring. And you, what so called Manny’s TEAM and ADVISERS are just cheering ringside and if Manny wins your Bank accounts also wins…. Its amazing that when Manny fight its absolutely zero crime rate all over the Philippines… Only the blind miss to watch his fight….

    STOP FIGHTING MANNY…..
    YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANT……

  2. If hatton is a novice then why even fight him? because it’s all about the Money that is the sad reality, if some how they can find a bum that can make millions they’ll make that fight, it’s not about fighting the best of the best, it’s about making an even that can land Money on everyone’s pockets, like they did with the DLH vs Pacman Circus, yeah Pacquiao beat up the golden boy, but did we needed to see that fight? what about the under cards? was it worth 60 dlls ppv? or even the thousands they were asking for a ticket?
Only to the people involved that pocket all of those millions.

So this is were we are @ now, both camps rejected the split and now we will not have a fight, maybe now Oscar can start eating kangaroos and say he feels re energize and in a few months they’ll sells us “The nightmare rematch” “The last act” or the “We are all in for the money with Manny The Rematch”. I guess 11 million dlls is not enough for some people in this great economy .

  3. not a pro-pacquiao, not even a hatton fan…i’m an old italian who just loves a good fight. and i believe should this fight happen, this will have such a tremendous impact on the sport in terms of awareness and keeping the sport alive.

on that one, i think we can all agree, right? we all love a good fight.

however, i’ve been noticing lately how disrespectful fighters nowadays are, without any regard at all to a fighters credentials. i don’t know who started that trend wherein even if you’re a fighter known only on your native land and with less accomplishments but with a fair share of viewership, you can price yourself as this or that. who?….tyson?…dela hoya?….i don’t know…. what hatton’s been claiming is preposterous cause if you’ll like at the credentials, hatton’s quite a novice in comparison to the filipino.

what i do know is that in the old days, you wouldn’t call on anybody if you don’t see him as the man to beat. and i think it’s a fact that pacquiao did not call on hatton. hatton called on pacquiao….he was so vocal about preferring pacquiao to win the dream match so he can fight him.

i think mr. blade see’s it. the 10% lion’s share is not greed. it’s more like “show me a goddamn respect, or do i have to slap you with my credentials to wake you up from your fantasy?”.

put the RESPECT back on the sport….and i think this sport will prosper more even without the goldenboy. that way, promoters or organizers will consider who’s really next in line to fight somebody rather than put up a show of a fight cause of its marketability.

nowadays, boxing’s more of a show….a spectacle like WWE. disgusting.

  4. I agree James, “Stick to what the deal was and ask for more next fight”, I bet that now that he is “worth more money” there is people that want to get a bigger piece the pie.

  5. Wow, a lot of feelings on this one. Here is the bottom line, this negotiation was almost over and done with before Pac spoke up. Why so late? He had to be in on the proceedings? Why? Someone got in his ear and told him he is worth more probably. That is not the way to do business and Arum knows that after doing business for decades. Stick to what the deal was and ask for more next fight. I don’t know if it’s greed but it is bad for the sport and the fighter to balk at a done deal.

  6. Bob Arum Pacquiao’s promoter is a business man and he knows what is good deal and what is not, Arum called Pacquiao’s team and I quote “I never saw such bizarre behavior.”

Pacquiao’s trainers Freddie Roach also agree a 50/50 is a good deal.

Maybe Pacquiao is not being greedy and maybe his people are, but one thing is for sure Pacquiao has the final word.

  7. Yes I would call that greed, It’s greed when you say I wont let this fight happen because I want 60% instead of 50% when the sport is suffering and people actually want to see this fight. Take the UFC for an example, you can say that is not as good as boxing and it’s pretty new and all of this talk about UFC vs Boxing, but those guys don’t make as much as boxers do, not even the top notch, most of them make 10k to 20k, they still put on a good and give their lives in the ring just like boxers do, they give the fans what they want ( I do believe they should get more money, but that happens when you have only 1 person running the show)
So for someone that is going to be making millions and say instead of getting 5 mill I want 6.5 or the fans will not see this fight, it’s bad for the sport, it’s bad for the fans and it’s greed, I mean come on, it shouldn’t be only about money, there is always a way to get things and if it’s money, well there is probably a way for that too, but don’t say no to what the fans want to see, because the only reason why Manny or any top fighter is up there making millions it’s because of us, that’s all I’m saying.

  8. umm..yeah…
    i forgot.

    Amir Khan
    Nate Campbell
    Malignaggi rematch 😀
    maybe JM Marquez

all of which will succumb to have the fight in UK with 200,000 PPV buys.

  9. now what if oscar fought hatton instead of manny…and hatton won even by a split decision. i bet he won’t take less than 60% on the over-all pot money, with all of UK’s PPV profit only to him on his next fights…regardless of who he fights, manny or mayweather.

now, would you call that greed?

  10. i read that one article saying PPV viewership can not be left out on the negotiating table….cause boxing is business….

    sad, but true.

and manny’s trying to turn things around now. cause respect doesn’t matter anymore nowadays. you see the resume’…give proper credit.

when you have businessmen doing the talking on the negotiating table….men like arum, like williams, like hatton’s father, like gacal….respect have no seat on the table. it’s all figures.

manny didn’t mind taking a li’l more than 30% percent on his fight against delahoya. he showed respect. now that he’s on top of the boxing world…is 50-50 all he can get? now WTF is this?

  11. this site stinks! manny being greedy???? the author OBVIOUSLY DO NOT DO RESEARCH. if i may tell you mr. wise writer, sir….manny’s handing out to his impoverished “kababayans” (do your research on that one!), he sends more than 200 children to school, and i can talk more…

manny said he does not care if 5 million or 5 people will watch his fight. he doesn’t give shit about PPV viewership shares like what hatton had been claiming in all of his negotiations with anybody. that’s all he got, nothing more! that’s explains all the posturing, and flexing, and bluffing. HIS RESUME’S AS DULL AS THAT OF AN UNDERGRADUATE.

if you look at it more deeply (i bet none of you can)…you’ll see that what pacquiao wanted is due respect…a mere acknowledgement. if the fight earns only 5 dollars….he doesn’t care. he’ll have 3, cause he’s the p4p king, he’s twice fighter of the year, he’s espn’s champion of champions…he was close to replicating armstrongs’ feats, he thrashed de la hoya and he even got usher raymond’s “YEAH” along with it.

now….what does hatton have aside from his ever-so-sickening claim on PPV viewership share? he’s the one who laid that kind of a card on the table….now who’s greedy?

    stinks……

  12. Will,.i believe that for manny,.money does not matter first..it is honor and fairness should be,.hatton’s performance and popularity through out the world does not even reach 40% of what the PACMAN achieves and everybody knows that,. absolutely, there is no reason for the hatton camp to claim more than 40%share…who are really GREED?..of course,it is hatton camp, because they are asking more share that will exceed there ” WORTH”..

  13. Ricky Hatton is not the end of the tunnel for Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather will most like come out this year, especially with his debt to Uncle Sam increasing everyday. If not Mayweather, Miguel Cotto would be an awesome match up. Others would be, winner of Mosley vs Margarito, the Pacman has mentioned that he would like to fight Cotto, which was agreed upon by Freddie Roach (though Freddie stated he’ll only take the fight if it happens at a catchweight of 143-44). Fight against the winner of JMM vs Diaz would bring some light to the true king of 135 lb division, though Nate Cambell could also be a possible opponent for Pacquiao. Edwin Valero, KO artist has been mentioned as a possible opponent once before. And lately, Andre Berto has issued a challenge vs Pacman. As you can see, Pacman doesnt need Hatton as much as Hatton needs Pacman. It is true that fighting Hatton would bring in more money to Pacquiao with the exception of Mayweather and possible Margarito & Cotto. But if Pacman refuse to fight Hatton, Hatton’s choices are limited. Hatton’s only logical opponent is Holt. This is argument on who gets the bigger purse is because of principle as well as greed. If Pacman stands his ground to 60-40, Hatton will be too stupid not to take the fight. Because #1, beating Pacquiao is his only chance to get a rematch vs Mayweather, #2 his only chance to reach the top p4p ranking, #3 to earn more than $10 million, #4 to prolong his career, and #5 to secure his place in the boxing hall of fame.
If I was the one deciding who gets the larger piece of the pie, I would give it to the winner of the fight. The winner gets 60% (make it more interesting, 65% if the win comes via Ko). Let them decide it in the ring. In ancient times, only winners of fights or battles are rewarded, the losers get nothing or even worst, killed. Unfortunately, boxing is a business, and in business money matters.

  14. Is it Greed or is it Fairness? Arum and Schaefer agreed to a 50/50 split, but was Pacman present during that meeting? When Pacman fought De La Hoya, Pacman received 35% to Oscar’s 65%, Pacman won via convincing TKO against Oscar. Can a man get what he truely deserve? There have been many people in boxing who made lots of money in expense of the top p4p and the most exciting boxer in the sport in the 5 years. Manny Pacman Pacquiao has given the fans what they want to see, he gives it 110% in and out of the ring. Manny Pacquiao is Boxing, which is a rare breed in a dying sport. Manny Pacquiao is what every boxing fan around the world wants to see fight, and experience the excitement that this 5 foot 6 inches “typhoon from the Pacific” (as Larry Merchant described Pacman once during a fight) gives every minute of every round. You say its greed, but with all of Pacman has to offer in and outside of the ring for the sport of boxing compare that to Hatton’s, Is it greed or is it fairness.
The Pacman can fight any top fighter within his weight limit and still make millions of dollars in doing so, but can you truely say that to Hatton, who’s only fan based would be UK fans. Even if Hatton makes $5 million dollars to fight another top fighter like Holt, Manny Pacquiao will easily make $10 million to a nobody, imagine what a Mayweather vs Pacquiao would bring. Manny Pacquiao won convincingly vs DLH and Diaz, and won by split decision vs Marquez, while Hatton won convincingly vs Malagnaggi, but didnt look impressive vs Lazcano and loss to Mayweather. Now, do you really think Hatton deserves 50% of he pie? Pacman is who everybody close to his division wants to fight, not Hatton. Pacman is the one who everyone around the world wants to see fight, not Hatton.

Dont get me wrong, I want to see Pacman vs Hatton happens, but give the guy what he deserve. Pacman can fight Valero and get 90% of the pot, or he can fight JMM and get 75% of the pot. Pacman has many options while Hatton does not. Pacman can fight a bum and it will sell over 500,000 PPV buys, while Hattons last fight with Malagnaggi did between 175,000-200,000 buys in which 90% of it was from the UK. Again, ask yourself 50/50. I dont think so.

  15. Greed, greed, that’s all this is, I hate when boxers go “if it’s not this amount I’m not fighting” I understand it’s just the nature of man to always want more, but come on, if your fighting the best fighters and it’s good money then let’s make the good fights, 50 – 50 seems reasonable, make the fight, give the public what they want, because we are the ones paying for tickets and making sure you get freaking millions of dollars.

Crap like this is not gonna fix this sport, the good thing is that Bob saved the day!

  16. i think 50-50 is pretty fair, i mean who has manny fought above 130, David Diaz, an Oscar de la Hoya that seemed to be shot or out of shape , old whatever i mean seriously i am not trying to diminish manny’s accomplishments he is a great fighter and he has beaten future hall of famers but he has not proven himself above 130 so in my mind he should’t be demanding that kind of cash until he does.
