fernando-montiel-370x270The 28th of March is going to be a special date for current WBO super flyweight champion Fernando “KOchulito” Montiel since on that day he will be going for a third world title in as many divisions.

Montiel will be facing the Argentinean Diego Oscar Silva for the WBO Latino bantamweight title.

Montiel wil be sharing the bill with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., WBC 130 lbs. champion Humberto Soto, Jose Luis Castillo and Giovanni Segura on the “Latin Fury 8-Tijuana Thunder” fight card that will be celebrated in Tijuana, MX.

“I am sure that  that I will be the one that will shine the most because I feel able to and I know what I can do, I say this will all due respect of my coleagues.  I am sure I will give a great performance and every one will be proud of me,” Montiel stated.

“Argentineans can take a lot, I shouldn’t be over confident, we are going to box and be focused on the fight,” Montiel said regarding his opponent, Silva of Buenos Aires.

As far as what we can expect of Montiel in the bantamweight limit, Montiel stated:

“We have worked a lot in my strength in the gym.  People say that I don’t have the body to be a bantam or a super bantam but you have to be intelligent.  For example, look at Mayweather.  He was a super welterweight champion after being a lightweight or a natural welterweight but thanks to his intelligence he was able to reach that pinnacle.”

Montiel has competed in the division before with a loss to Jhonny Gonzalez.

“I wasn’t as mature as I am now and I needed a little bit more aggressiveness.  I have changed my style a little and now I am more aggressive and I take risks a little bit more, something that with Jhonny I didn’t do.  I didn’t plant myself and throw hard punches and that might of been the difference,” he punctuated.

Montiel hopes that the filipino Gerry Penalosa gives up the official WBO strap since he might be moving up to the 122 lbs division to challenge Juan Manuel Lopez.
