Performing live TONIGHT with Hy3rid

Alfonso S. Gomez  (18-4-2, 8 KOs) is used to battling it out in the ring. Tonight he’s squaring off against some tough competition–in the Guitar Center’s 2009 “Battle of the Bands.” Instead of trading leather, he’ll be trading rhymes. As a rapper and musician with Hy3rid, they will go toe-to-toe with other bands in tonight’s show to see who will be declared the champion of this Sunday evening battle!

The welterweight formed the band with his two brothers, Roberto and Jesus. But on stage, the trio is better known as Diablo, Robb and Zeuz. And these guys can rock. Their talents have gotten them quickly noticed; they’re already signed to a recording label, Little Men Big Heart Recordz. Tonight’s performance will showcase their brand new songs that are featured on Hy3rid’s upcoming CD.

The band’s huge fan base has been supportive since they first began. Often compared to Linkin Park, they don’t mind the comparison to the Grammy-award winning band (who are also from L.A). But they are proud of their own original fusion of Español and hip hop. Alfonso (Diablo) raps and plays the piano, writes lyrics and even co-produced some of the tracks.

Ready for the challenge and tough enough to face off against the other bands, Hy3rid is looking forward to performing live. Alfonso and his siblings have been busy with band practice and preparing for the competition.

“We’ve been so busy with our new album, we haven’t performed live since September,” says Robb, lead singer. “These will be new songs in the set that no one has heard live yet. There are eight bands and the judges will be looking at our performance, delivery, and crowd participation.”
angielopezMulti-talented Alfonso will remain active in both the ring and on stage. Whether he’s facing competition on the canvas or in the studio, the young fighter is ready for action. The Guadalajara-born boxer has been training and says, “I’ll be back in the ring soon, probably in May.”

At Friday night’s “Gold Rush” Amateur Boxing Show in El Monte, the three brothers made a special guest appearance at the packed arena where the crowd-pleasing Alfonso got on the mike–to help present an award to Bell Garden Youth Boxing Club’s Josie Arrey-Mejia and to announce the lucky prize winners at the event’s raffle. The boxing fans also got to visit the official Hy3rid booth where an array of T-shirts, wristbands and CDs were selling fast right beside the boxer’s gloves and fight souvenirs that were also offered.

A big turnout is expected at their show, and the fight community will be represented in support of their “boxing brother” who shot to fame in the first season of “The Contender” and who went on to retire Arturo Gatti in their Atlantic City bout.

“I’ve been hearing their music since they first started recording,” says Adolfo Perez Jr. The World Boxing Hall of Fame Board of Director is a big fan of their sound, “They’re really good. And I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing the live performance.”

Hy3rid appreciates all the enthusiasm from everybody. “I want to tell all our fans thank you for all the support. We get so many comments on YouTube and MySpace,” the Gomez brothers tell me. “Thanks to the fans for everything!”

Alfonso/Diablo, the rapper/musician, will be taking the stage tonight. But after the concert, he will be back in training camp for his next bout in a couple of months.

From rhythm to rhymes, both boxing fans and music fans are invited to come out and watch Hy3rid perform and compete in tonight’s concert. Be the first to hear the live set from their next album “El Circo de Hy3rid.” Look for Diablo–he’ll be the one with the “knockout” performance!
