Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao might face each other as early as October thru December according to Top Rank’s bobhead honcho Bob Arum according the Puerto Rican daily El Vocero.

Cotto (33-1, 27KO) is coming off from capturing the vacant WBO welterweight title in his last bout by a 5th round TKO over Britain’s Michael Jennings.  He is scheduled to defend that title on June 13th, the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Parade in New York City, against either the IBF champ Joshua Clottey or the WBC monarch Andre Berto, although it seems that the latter might give a rematch to Luis Collazo.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, and with a record of 48 wins against 3 losses with 2 draws and 36 of those wins coming in by KO, will face the U.K.’s Ricky Hatton on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

According to Arum, a mega clash between Cotto and Pacquiao would be more attractive than one with Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is flirting with coming out of retirement, and for the retired lawyer it would be much easier to put together the contest since both fighters are part of his stable.

None the less, Shane Mosley, who is coming off from destroying Antonio Margarito for the WBA belt, might get in the middle of the plans since he has expressed interest in facing Pacquiao by the end of the year.

Mosley has even hinted that he would be interested in facing Cotto on June 13th to avenge his loss to the boricua in November of ’07.
