“Famoso” Hernandez Ready for Escobedo!

Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez, ex world champion from El Salvador is winding down his training for his next bout at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX, on April 4th as part of “Lightweight Lightning” presented by Golden Boy Promotions and distributed by HBO PPV.

Hernandez (43-7-1, 24KO), the most well known fighter out of is El Salvador, is a national hero in his home country and is ready to give his compatriots new to be proud of come April 4th.

Oscar Canjura of NotiFight.com reports that Hernandez now makes his home in the Lone Star state of Texas and is working with former world champion Jesse James Leija for his upcoming challenge.

“Famoso” returned to the squared circle in 2008 defeating Hectro Alatorre and he is confident that he still has enough in the tank to make another run towards greatness.

“It was great to return to the ring last August and since then, I have been living in the gym,” Hernandez stated.  “I feel quicker and stronger than ever,” he underlined.

Originally, Hernandez was to face another ex world champion in Jorge “Hiena” Barrios but the Argentinean was forced to withdraw when he suffered a fracture to his jaw bone during training.  He has been substituted by the former Olympian Vicente Escobedo.

“When they asked me to take Barrios’ place and fight Hernandez, I did not hesitate to say yes,” Escobedo manisfested.  Escobedo had to cancel his upcoming but against former champion Kevin Kelley.  “This is a spectacular opportunity for me and even though I have a lot of respect for Carlos, I know that to defeat him would be a huge step for my career.”

carlosIn turn, Carlos Hernandez stated: “Vicente Escobedo brings a different angle to this bout since he is a good fighter, young, with a lot of talent and potential but he still does not have enough to beat me and my experience will be the difference in this fight.”

Oscar Canjura, a representative for the World Boxing Organization visited Hernandez in San Antonio, TX, as he trained in the gym of his chief second, Jesse James Leija.

“Carlos is working very hard in getting ready for this fight, he looks solid and it seems that he is in great condition,” canjura said.  “Carlos is expecting a win which would possibly earn him another title opportunity.  We might be able to speak about a match up with Juan Manuel Marquez who holds the WBO belt.”
