castilloWith a mere two weeks away from “Latin Fury 8-Tijuana Thunder” mega-PPV being held in the border city of Tijuana, MX, big changes to the televised and non-televised fight card have come to light.

Although the main event between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (38-0-1, 29 KOs) and the Argentinean Luciano Leonel Cuello (23-0, 10 KOs) is intact, it has been revealed exclusively to Fightnews.com that two-time lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo (57-9-1, 49 KOs) is off the televised portion of the night.

Reportedly, Castillo has suffered a lesion to his Achilles heel that is preventing him from facing former welterweight champion Antonio Diaz (45-5-1, 29 KOs) at a catchweight, in what arguably could’ve been considered the most competitive fight of the night. No news whether Diaz is still slated to perform.

Former light middleweight champion Alejando “Terra” Garcia (26-4-1, 24 KOs) of Tijuana, who was slated to participate in the non televised fight card, has now been scheduled one week earlier on Saturday, March 21st, to face the No. 8 WBC middleweight and The Contender alum Miguel Espino (19-2-1, 8 KOs) from North Hollywood, Cailf., in a ten-round scheduled bout from the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills.
“Tijuana Thunder” was originally announced to take place at the Calimax Stadium which houses the professional Mexican League Tijuana baseball team, Los Potros, but just recently it was made public that the fight card, which is being promoted by the City of Tijuana in association with Top Rank and Zanfer Promotions, will be held at the Plaza Monumental bull ring located in the beach front suburb of Playas de Tijuana.

No word on when or where tickets will be sold or if any will be available to the general public since it has been rumored that the city of Tijuana is prepared to make the almost-10,000 capacity venue open to the public for free.
