mijares1Unbeaten bantamweight Nehomar Cermeño (17-0, 10 KOs) won a twelve round split decision over former world champion Cristian Mijares (36-5-2, 15 KOs) to claim the WBA interim 118lb title on Saturday night at the Centennial Coliseum in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. Scores were 116-112, 115-113 for Cermeño and 117-111 for Mijares.

Less than a year ago Mijares was considered by many one of the best pound for pound fighters in the sport. Mijares’ career is now in jeopardy. He lost his second bout in a row not to mention his flyweight titles to Vic Darchinyan last November and now he lost his bantamweight debut.

Should Mijares take a break or should he call it quits, what’s your opinion?
