MyBoxingFans.com’s own Felipe Leon has broke the story that Juan Manuel Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KO’s) may have been granted his wish and will be in a mega fight with Floyd Mayweather (39-0, 25 KO’s) with a possible date of September 12th in Las Vegas. Marquez just fought at 134 and Floyd last fought on 12/8/07 at 147. JM would want to meet at 140 for this fight but Floyd has not fought at the weight since Gatti in 2005. Floyd has had 5 fights north of that weight since 2005.
IF the fight is made at 140 or 147 I would initially favor Mayweather. He is a naturally bigger man at 5’8” and has a 72” reach. JMM is listed at 5’7” with a 67” reach so he would give away roughly 1 inch in height and a big 5 inch reach advantage to a technician like PBF. Almost assuredly Marquez would bother Floyd and win some rounds but I do not think he can hurt Floyd like he did Cassamayor or Diaz and Floyd is a good puncher with world class defense.
Marquez does have the advantage of being much busier of late but he is 35 compared to Floyd who is still only 32!!! All in all a great fight that should be made and maybe finally someone can beat the once pound for pound best in the world. It’s early but what do you feel would happen in this match?
Jon ur a clown for some of those remarks. PBF may be a classless boxer. That is only part of his strategy to take his opponent away from their gameplan. As far as a Boxer PBF single handedly DOMINATED 5 different weight classes, so how could he possibly be a bum?? Secondly, it is JMM that is complaining about coming up in weight. Y is that?? It’s a possibility he’s afraid that he is gonna get his ASS WHOOPED @ 147!! JMM has not accomplished what PBF has so clearly u can’t compare the 2. And when JMM has faced legitimate opponents he fumbled the rock twice against Pacman. I already know what ur gonna say “ooh, JMM won one of those fights”. Evidently not or else the judges would have decided that, so ur opinion does not MATTER!! A valuable phrase of mine 4 u 2 embark on “Statistics determine who is best, NOT opinions!” PBF has the better stats! So U GUESS what the outcome is gonna b??
I personally couldn’t care less about Floyd Mayweather and have no desire to watch another boring fight with this classless fighter who rambles on and on about how much money he has.
I do hope that a great and classy fighter like Juan Manuel Marquez, can make a bunch of funny from the suckers the shell out money for pay-for-view as Juan Manuel Marquez has MORE than earned a big payday.
As for Mayweather, he is a over-marketed, over-rated, boring classless bum who is an example of what is wrong with boxing.
Maybe Mayweather can fight in a “steel cage” match with Oscar De La Hoya, where they can fight over who can count their money the fastest and hopefully the steel cage will float somewhere to a different universe so we can see some true fighters who deserve publicity and big paydays fight.
