Earning one more victory on his record was fighter Alfonso S. Gomez  (18-4-2, 8 KOs). But this time the “W” was on stage with his band Hy3rid. The boxer competed in last night’s 2009 “Battle of the Bands” at Club 705 in Hermosa Beach, California to a rousing ovation from the wall-to-wall capacity crowd.

The concert was sponsored by the Guitar Center and featured eight bands going toe-toe-toe in fierce competition. After dueling with several other bands, Hy3rid was declared the winner–in a draw for first place. The talented group received tons of support from fans and concert goers in attendance. The cheers reached high-decibel levels as the band whipped the crowd into a frenzy with everyone dancing and pumping their fists to the beat.

4Alfonso’s bandmates include his two brothers, Rob and Jesus. On stage they become “Diablo, Robb and Zeuz” and the talented trio execute their rap lyrics and verses with perfect in-sync timing. Describing their sound as a fusion of broken Español and Hip Hop, they had everyone’s attention as they commanded the stage.

With tons of friends, fans and family (including proud parents Alfonso Sr. and Lillian) in attendance at the beautiful club setting right by the ocean, Hy3rid had the whole venue rocking. With key sponsors Maniaco Gear and Entertainment Suciaz also in support, “Team Gomez” became “Team Hy3rid” as the boys took the stage.

Performing an energetic 25-minute set, the Gomez brothers and their bandmates had everyone up on their feet and received a huge response when they began to sing their hit song “Pistola en Mano” as the audience went wild. Hy3rid closed out their set with “Quiero” as the crowd jumped and danced in unison.

“The fans were so loud, they were screaming and chanting our name when they announced the winner,” says Robb. “After they said ‘Hy3rid’ everyone starting yelling really loud for us and it was like we won all over again!”

7The Brothers Gomez–all in their twenties–love playing music and are excited about performing live again soon. Look for the band’s new CD, “El Circo De Hy3rid,” coming out this Spring under Little Men Big Heart Recordz.

And for you inquiring boxing fans: Yes! Alfonso is planning to fight again and is training hard for a May 1st bout.

So whether he’s “Diablo” on the mike or Alfonso Gomez in the ring, one thing is for certain–the welterweight is used to winning fights and proved once again he can battle with the best!
