guzmanFormer featherweight and super featherweight champion Joan Guzman will return to the ring on May 16th against the experienced Michel Lozada of Mexico.

The venue or location is not known.

An anonymous source revealed that before Guzman can challenge for any of the 135 lbs. belts, he must successfully face off against Lozada.

Guzman, who is undefeated in 29 professional fights with 17KO will train in Los Angeles, CA. Usually Guzman is known to train in New York City or Las Vegas but his team feels that it would be best to train on the west coast and away from any unecessary distractions.

Guzman also is working with a new trainer in Roberto Garcia of the now famous La Colonia boxing gym in Oxnard, CA, and is now ranked as the #2 in the lightweight division by the WBA.

It is believed that despite that high ranking of Guzman within the WBA, it is not likely for Guzman to challenge the current champion Juan Manuel Marquez for the belt and will probably go for the vacant IBF strap if he is victorious against Lozada. Guzman is ranked at #7 by the IBF.

His possible opponent for that title could be the Russian Yuri Romanov.
