By FightNews: In a well attended press conference today in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico, it was officially announced that undefeated world ranked contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will return to the ring on Saturday, July 25 in “Latin Fury X”, a world championship card presented by Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer and to be televised to the United States live on Pay-per-view from this beautiful resort town know as the “Riviera Nayarit”.
Guillermo Brito of Promociones Zanfer made the announcement a long side Chavez Jr., and the state’s Tourism secretary Mario Basulto, the state’s sports director Sara Bertha Valdez, Hotel Grand Maya General Manager, Alejandro Ruiz and local promoter Adan Casas.
“I know that everyone in Mexico has always supported me and it’s an honor for me to fight in this great resort town. I will give my best in the ring and hope everyone enjoys a great night of boxing”, said Chavez Jr., who is ranked number #3 by the WBC at 154 pounds.
Update: Miguel Cotto vs. Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao sat at ringside and watched Cotto win a split decision over Joshua Clottey in New York’s Madison Square Garden. After seeing the thousands of Puerto Rican fans Cotto has, Pacquiao imminently told his promoter Bob Arum to make a deal with the WBO welterweight champion.
“We’re going to have to talk to the Cotto people,” said Arum during the Cotto-Clottey post fight. “He has a lot of options. I would like for him to fight Manny Pacquiao. That would be a tremendous fight and I hope we can get it done for November.”
There is no questions that the Pound-for-pound champ Pacquiao would make a killing in Pay-per-view buys but the one name Arum couldn’t avoid responding to was that of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Mayweather, whose return to the ring July 18th has now been postponed, is still viewed by many as the top fighter in the world despite a 19-month ring layoff and a fight with Pacquiao could be the highest grossing of all time but Bob Arum simply responded “its not happening.”

Arreola, Angulo, and Perez at Ontario fight night
“New Blood 4″ lived up to its billing last Friday night at the Thompson Boxing Promotions fight card at the Ontario Doubletree Hotel in Southern California. The evening offered six entertaining bouts including a couple of bloody battles on the canvas.
The main event between Juan Carlos Burgos and Vyacheslav Gusev had those at ringside shielding their faces from the splatter. Gusev suffered a cut to his eye but stayed in the fight. Burgos would get the unanimous decision to capture the WBC CABOFE strap in the ten rounder.
Always a crowd favorite, Mauricio Herrera was featured in the co-main against Luis Alfredo Lugo. Local fighter “El Maestro” Herrera was victorious to earn a WBC USNBC title.
There was also a slugfest between Jesus “Pollo” Hernandez and Aaron Garcia. The six-round bout between the two featherweights had the audience cheering the young warriors throughout the contest. Hernandez fought on with cuts over both eyes in a back and forth battle. After the final bell, their war was declared a majority draw as the standing room only crowd applauded the effort.

Former world champion Jorge ‘Travieso’ Arce of Mexico is heading to Atlantic City, N.J. Arce will take on Fernando Lumacad of the Philippines on Top Rank’s Latin Fury 9′ championship boxing event at the Boardwalk Hall. Caesars Atlantic City is hosting. The Arce vs. Lumacad super flyweight fight will replace the Fernando Montiel vs. Eric Morel title fight. Montiel, the WBO bantamweight champion from Mexico, is out with a hand injury. “The plan is to move the Montiel title fight to a new date, perhaps in September,” said Bob Arum of Top Rank.
