Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 drinking game
August 31, 2009
Eric Raskin from RingTv created a fun Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 drinking game which I think every one will enjoy.
By Eric Raskin of RingTv.
As Ricky Hatton’s fans can tell you, boxing and beverage are a perfect combination. With the aid of a couple of six-packs, that “Hatton Wonderland” song sounds like “Eleanor Rigby,” ugly clinching looks like clever infighting, and the pain of a quick knockout loss is so dulled that you joyously sing “Hatton Wonderland” after the fight anyway. Thank God for alcohol.
I happen not to be a big drinker; it’s hard enough for me to stay awake for fights that start after 11:30 p.m. on the east coast when I don’t have any depressants in my system. But I can appreciate that a great many fight fans enjoy knocking back a cold one as they watch fighters get knocked cold on their back. And what better way to drink than with the help of a drinking game?
De La Hoya blog: Marquez will beat Mayweather
August 31, 2009
Oscar De La Hoya says in his weekly blog that Juan Manuel Marquez will shock a lot of people when he fights Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Sept. 19 in Las Vegas on pay-per-view television. Here’s why:
Then Mayweather will want to prove that he can stand in front of a smaller guy with no problem. That’s when things will start to unfold in Marquez’s favor. Mayweather is not invincible. I truly feel Marquez will expose him.
Everything is in Juan Manuel Marquez’s favor now. Floyd Mayweather has a lot of distractions, he’s been away from the sport for two years and he has a rib injury. I strongly feel everything is falling into place. This is the right time for Marquez to beat him.

Gatti’s wife to sue over husband’s death
August 28, 2009
The wife of boxer Arturo Gatti intends to sue the state of Pernambuco for arresting her as a prime suspect in her husband’s death a month ago.
Amanda Rodrigues spent 18 days in jail after husband found dead at Brazil resort town of Porto de Galinhas.
Rodrigues’ lawyer, Celio Avelino, said by telephone Thursday his client is taking action against the state for “wrongfully accusing her of murder.” Avelino said paperwork will be filed in about 20 days. He declined to provide further details.
A day after Gatti was found dead, police said his 23-year-old wife strangled him with her purse strap as he drunkenly slept. But on July 30, police ruled the 37-year-old boxer had committed suicide and Rodrigues was released from jail
A star shines at Nokia
August 28, 2009
It was another fight night at The Nokia Club on Thursday. This intimate room saw the Versus network with Bernard Hopkins and some boxers in attendance like Shane Mosley and Victor Ortiz. Ortiz told me he is looking to get back in the ring in December on a possible Shane Mosley undercard. He said his hand is healing nicely but he still is sporting a cast.
The night featured young Abner Mares but the co-main event saw Oxnard’s David Rodela (14-1-3, 6 KO’s) take on the tough Gamalier Rodriguez (8-2-2, 4 KO’s). It was a good scrap with many trades between the two but Rodela got the unanimous decision and kept the Quaker State belt. Rodela was busier throughout and chased Gamalier around the ring landing shots.
