WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto had his first day of training for his ‘Firepower’ super fight against Manny Pacquiao on November 14. Miguel began his training camp in the Abner “Pin” Cotto Boxing Gym in Aguas Buenas. He will be training three days a week to establish a pre-training condition until his physical trainer Phil Landman arrives in Puerto Rico on August 22 to begin full training sessions on Monday, August 24.
Based on the contract agreement to face Manny Pacquiao, they will both wear 8-ounce gloves to get the most power out of their punches. The Nevada rule is that all fighters above 135-pounds have to wear 10-ounce gloves but there is a stipulation that permits the use of 8-ounce gloves if both fighters agree to their use. This is a rule put together by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The Nevada commission amended their rule when Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito first met, both camps jointly protested to use 8-ounce gloves.
What does all this mean? It means some one is getting knocked out!
