Vic Darchinyan vs Tomas Rojas

Australian WBC and WBA superflyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-2-1, 26 KOs) is likely to make a mandatory defense of his WBC title against Mexican Tomas Rojas (31-11-1, 22 KOs) in early December according to his manager Elias Nasser. He told the Sydney Morning Herald that this bout was in discussions, although not yet finalized for the first week in December. This would allow Darchinyan sufficient time for his 44 stitches to heal in wounds received when he lost to Joseph Agbeko in a challenge for the IBF bantamweight title in July.

Already, the 33-year-old Armenian born boxer has been forced to relinquish the IBF version of the super flyweight title as they required a mandatory defense in October which his team felt was too soon for the wounds to heal.

Elias Nasser confirmed, “It would have been too soon. It would have been impossible. I would have been risking his health. Both cuts were to the bone and right in the middle of the eye brow on either side. He copped quite a few head butts in that bout.”

The 29-year-old Rojas is on a winning run of five fights after he was stopped in six rounds by Jorge Arce at Las Vegas in September 2007. He comes off a ninth round stoppage of Everado Morales in Mexico last month for the WBC interim super flyweight title.
