Joan Guzman got his ass kicked!

What’s worse: incompetent MMA judges or corrupt boxing judges?

Corrupted boxing judges I will say, the last time I got sick to my stomach was when Paul Malignaggi lost a unanimous decision to Juan Diaz with some stupid scores, 115-113, 116-112 and a ridiculous 118-110 from Van Hoy. Many felt Malignaggi won. From my point of view, Malignaggi (26-3, 5 KO) largely dominated the fight defensively and with speed. Diaz (35-2, 17 KO) did survive a bad cut and didn’t fight badly but he had a horrible time closing the distance on the longer, taller and quicker Malignaggi and it was Paulie that made much of the fight go.

The 12-round junior welterweight rematch is scheduled for December 12 on HBO.

You will think because those judges were exposed, other judges will think twice before making a bad call, well the sport of boxing continues to produce some shocking decisions.

Alexis Arguello autopsy photos!

November 30, 2009

alex2Anonymous photographs of the body of deceased former world champion Alexis Arguello were sent to a national newspaper in Nicaragua in which signs of trauma are revealed contradicting the reports of a suicide which was the cause of death given four months ago.

Besides the signs of bruising, a laceration is present on the nose of Arguello which helps the case of his family members who insist that the former world champion never had the intention of killing himself.

It was also reported that Arguello’s children had mentioned the bruising with out any oficial explanation given by the National Institute of Medicine (IML) where the autopsy was performed.

“We are also suspicious because of the speed that the investigation was done in,” Arguello Jr. stated. 3Arguello Jr. also revealed that when Arguello’s widow let him know of the death of his father, he insisted “for my father’s body not to be touched but by the time I got to Managua, he already was at the National Palace.”

November 30, 2009

The charisma, strength, hunger and the skill of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez of Jalisco have intrigued Oscar De La Hoya so much that he has vowed to sign Alvarez next year at whatever the cost.

At the press conference earlier this month to announce the Mosley-Berto championship fight, De La Hoya stated that his next step will be to sign Alvarez because he feels that he will be the next Mexican boxing idol.

Bute KOs Andrade

November 29, 2009

by Nat Gottlieb | Photos by AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Jacques Boissinot

With the stunning memory of his 12th round knockdown by Andrade in their first fight clearly on his mind, Bute seemed to fight tentatively through the first three rounds, boxing well enough to win on the scorecards, but appeared to lack aggressiveness and confidence. But after being backed into the ropes by Andrade with just over a minute to go in the fourth round, Bute lashed out with a short left hook to the chin that dropped the Mexican for the first time in his career and turned the fight around.

IBF Bute Andrade BoxingAndrade got up from the knockdown and seemed to be unhurt, but a minute later, with the sellout crowd of 16,500 at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City roaring, Bute found his groove and fired a left hook from hell that caught Andrade smack on the liver and sent him down for the second and final time.

John Molina headlines Saturday

November 27, 2009

By Francisco Salazar of Fightnews

When John Molina made his professional debut inside a crowded basketball gymnasium over three and a half years ago, fight fans paid little attention to the hard-hitting fighter from Covina, CA. Sure he can hit hard, but can he box? If he gets knocked down, will he get back up? Will he be able to make adjustments when facing fighters of higher caliber? So far, the answers are a resounding yes. The unbeaten Molina knows that he has a long way to go to become a world champion. However, he is willing to step up in class and achieve his short and long term goals. He will aim high as he squares off against his most challenging fighter to date, hard-hitting Martin Honorio in a 10 round Lightweight bout tomorrow night at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA.

The bout will headline a special edition of “ShoBox: the New Generation” card, presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions.

Manny pays cutman Diaz $50K

November 24, 2009

By Michael Marley of Boxing Confidential

Under the heading of “nice work if you can get it,” we now file the position of cutman for Manny Pacquiao.

Banger after he lost to Antonio Margarito, landed on his feet in Pacman’s corner as the stop the bleeding if any expert.

I’ve learned that the kind and generous Pacquiao paid Argentina native Miguel Diaz a cool

$50,000 for his services during his 12th round TKO over Cotto Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.

It should be a cushy Christmas in the Casa de Diaz in Las Vegas.

Any way you view it, it’s a princely sum for a job which can only take 11 minutes of actual work time (cuts can only be treated between rounds). And Pacman was not cut in his demolition job on Cotto.

As you probably know, head trainer Freddie Roach went home that night with a check for $1.1 million.
