The WBO from its headquarters in Puerto Rico sent a press release stating that Juan Manuel Marquez, the current lightweight champion of the organization must face the interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis.
The WBO stated that it does not have a problem with Marquez fighting on May 1st as it has been reported but first he must face Katsidis.

Reports have revealed that Ricky Hatton might be Marquez’s opponent May 1st and that the bout might take place in Manchester, England.
It has been rumoured that the Marquez-Hatton bout will be above the 135 lbs. weight limit and therefore his WBO title will not be at stake. Marquez also holds the WBA title.
Katsidis earned the interim version of the title when he defeated Vicente Escobedo last September in Las Vegas, NV.
