The well respected trainers Ronnie Shields and Buddy McGirt continue to be rumored to be on the top of the list to take over former champion Miguel Cotto’s corner for his next bout on June 12th in New York City.

Shields and McGirt are not the only names on that list to take over Cotto’s training who will next see action against Yuri Foreman for the WBA jr. middleweight title on the eve of the annual Puerto Rican parade in New York City.
Jose Santiago, who took over the reins when Cotto had a falling out with his previous trainer and uncle, Evangelista Cotto, will not be entirely out of the picture once a new trainer is chosen. Santiago will continue to work in the corner and also continue his work as matchmaker for Cotto Promotions.
“We will be sitting down to discuss the corner situation and his next fight with Bob Arum,” Gaby Peñagaricano, Cotto’s legal assessor, stated.
For Cotto’s last bout where he was defeated by Manny Pacquiao, Jose Santiago was assisted by Cotto’s brother Jose Miguel, his recently deceased father and cutman Joe Chavez.
