In trying to avoid the low temperature in the Northeast, Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa reached New York City to face Rogers Mtagwa on Saturday night in the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. HBO’s Boxing After Dark will be transmitting and promoted by Top Rank.
Gamboa (16-0, 14KO) of Cuba, arrived accompanied by his promoter Ahmet Oner and his manager Tony Gonzalez. Gamboa will be putting up his featherweight WBA title against Mtagwa (26-13-2, 18KO).
It is rumored that if Juan Manuel Lopez, who challenges Steven Luevano for the 126 lbs. WBO title in the main event, and Gamboa win respectively on Saturday night, they will face each other before the end of the year.
