The two time world champion Rafael Marquez announced that his working relationship with the famed trainer Nacho Beristain had ended. Marquez stated that he has not began training for the fourth installment of his war with Israel Varquez which will take place on May 22nd in Los Angeles, CA, but he is deciding in which gym he will begin his preparation for this important bout.

“I got tired of him not paying attention to me. I practically trained myself, he was always paying attention to my brother and when it was time to train me, he would go into his office,” Marquez stated when quizzed about the reason for the rupture.

Rafael mentioned that he still feels a deep love for his former trainer but that he was ready to make some changes in the twilight of his career.

When asked if he was going to bring in another trainer, he stated that he would not and that his father, Don Rafael Marquez, who taught his brother and he how to fight, will be helping him as he has done since the beginning of his career.

“I have been thinking in what gym I will start training at but I still have not decided,” Marquez said. “Except for Nacho not being there anymore, my team will remain the same. I have thought about asking Daniel Zaragoza to train me but I have not decided yet.”

He also confirmed that Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions will be in charge of that aspect of his career and not only does he want to face off against Israel Vazquez for the fourth time but in September or October, go against Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico.

“There is big plans for my career and this year should be one of the biggest of my career. I will continue going forward and I do want to leave it clear that there is no bad feelings between Nacho and I,” Marquez concluded.
