With as continuation of their first fight two years prior, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (17-0-1, 7KO) of San Diego, CA, by way of Cebu, PI, defeated via unanimous decision tough journeyman Cristian Favela (17-25-6, 10KO) last night at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Diego, CA.

The southpaw Gesta controlled the action with quick combinations with both fists for the eight rounds as it was reflected in the official scores of 80-72 three times. Desperately looking for the knock out so he could go down as the first man to stop Favela, Gesta displayed his full arsenal of hooks, upper cuts, jabs and straight left hands but to no avail as the tough Favela, who developed a nasty bruise under his left eye mid way thru the bout, stuck to it and landed occasional wild over hand right to the head of Gesta as well as power punches to the body.

“I am a little disappointed because I didn’t get the knockout,” Gesta said immediately after the bout. “I wanted to be the first one because he has never been stopped. It didn’t happen, I didn’t knock him out, he’s tough.”

In the other bout of note, Antonio “Simple Man” Orozco (6-0, 5KO) of National City, CA, looked devastating as he stopped his biggest threat to date, Jaime Orrantia (11-27-5, 10KO) in the third round of a schuduled six jr. welterweight bout. Orozco battered Orrantia with quick jabs a demolishing left hook to the body followed by left hook to the head combination that Orrantia never saw coming.

Orrantia’s corner threw in the towel at the 47 second mark of the third round to give Orozco his 5th KO of six wins against no defeats.
