Valero stops DeMarco after 9

February 6, 2010 by Guest Post

By MARK WALSH, Associated Press Writer

Edwin Valero of Venezuela retained his WBC lightweight belt by stopping Mexico’s Antonio DeMarco on Saturday night.

DeMarco sat in his corner and declined to come out for the 10th round of their title fight. The Mexican was well behind on points and, though he had no obvious injuries, officials said he retired on the advice of his handlers.

When the fight ended, Valero was eight points up on the scorecards of all three judges.

Valero improved to 27-0, with none of his bouts going the distance. DeMarco had only his second career defeat against 23 wins and a draw.

“My physical strength started to show,” Valero said. “Little by little, I started gaining ground. The first three or four rounds I couldn’t hit him with my jab, but then I started to connect.”

Valero picked up a gash across his forehead in the second round, which came from an elbow by DeMarco that was ruled accidental. Valero needed three stitches afterward to close the wound.

Valero said he’d like a fight with Manny Pacquiao, which would force him to move up several weight categories. Continue reading…

I think Valero gave a great example of courage
    and determination .
he is a tenacious fighter and can endure the pain in order to achieve his goal.
Valero taught Demarco a great lesson in boxing
I Believe that Valero is the type of fighter who can beat Floyd and manny because he can take
    PUNCHES without a problem

  11. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 5:41 am

nobody from the top fighters is willing to fight valero because they deep in their heart and mind that Valero is a very very very tough fighter
and he can seriously end champions careers .
Manny, floyd ,paulie, marqueze,Diaz… I don’t who do think of they all sacred of VALERO they ate affraid to sign a contract with this guy because they know that they will kiss the canvas .
VALERO is the pound for pound and the king of KO .
Man any fighter with NASTY cut will quit any fighter .this dude is hungry and got f… big big big balls .I think of him as unbeatable .
I want floyd or manny with this guy in the ring.
I believe that hatton won’t even last a round with
Valero.the dude is design for boxing he does mind geeting hit but he is coming to get you wowowowowoNO Fear .I got balls just sign the contract .
Manny is coward ,why he fighting Clottey for god sake seriously WHY.go fight Valeo who knock you out and drink your blood and eat your children .just kidding hehe

  12. Mr Brown on February 7th, 2010 12:51 pm

    Love boxing

Vallero will never beat Mayweather that’s wishful thinking dude…….
First of all he never really been tested. That chin is available for him to get catch. Who has he really fought lets be honest?

This guy can easily be out boxed just with that style of his alone, witch only relies on power no skills what so ever, he kind of remind me of a Carlos Mayorga very one dimentional can’t keeps his hands up…..
get this guy out of here, those knock out are not scary anyone. He’s a bum when you fight 27 bums your a bum yourself, enough said.

  13. TijuanaBoxing on February 7th, 2010 1:18 pm

any fighter with NASTY cut will quit any fighter… really? Now Valero is the only fighter in the world who can fight with a nasty cut…yeah right.

Valero fought a great fight he does look like a young Pacquiao, when he didn’t have the head, body and foot work movement he has now, but I think he may punch harder than Manny. He did great with that big cut and he showed he has a good chin.
He has all the likes be a great champion, maybe p4p in the future but he needs to get a better trainer, someone like Naazim or Freddie.

DeMarco will be back, he never was in this fight, he took to long to let go with his hands and was taking too many shots in return. He was brave enough to go and challenge Valero instead of taking an easier fight, but he has much to learn, he’s only 24, hopes he learns from this fight.

  14. TijuanaBoxing on February 7th, 2010 1:31 pm

I agree Brown, but with a good trainer I think he could grown into a great fighter, he has the power and determination, now he needs head, body and foot work, and hide that damn chin lol.

  15. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 2:12 pm

I think that both Mayweather and manny are beatable and I think Valero is the one who can get
the job done.I agree with Tijuana about changing the trainer, but I think his defense has
has improved compare to the past.
Valsro can take punches and mayweather and manny can’t .
we all saw manny with marquze ,he barley made it considering Marquez a counter puncher !!!

  16. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 2:25 pm

in my opinion I think that a new p4p was born
and I think Valero can beat Floyd and Manny.
The guy got what it take .Man,i feel and I see it.
Maywethear is a great fighter but doesn’t put on a great show .he is very defensive .
Manny until now he did’t fight a tough fighter except for Marquez who actually won the fight in the court of public opinion .

  17. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 4:38 pm

Mr.Brown if there is a bum ,Floyd be the one
he is a coward who refused to fight a real welterweight for too long until finally he cornered to fight mosely .
Your man thinks that he is a big shot .he is not even excited fighter ,his style dude is boring and
he is not a pwerful puncher.keeps on moving around the ring like a chicken .give me a break Mr.Brown you believe in him because you want but nobody thinks that he is p4p king .he demands alot $$$ and he is not even good to watch .he was able to knock down Marquez who was smaller than him .give a break dude .you like him because you’re deceived by his BS.
Maywrarher is a coward who only faught guys smaller than him and he tried his best to avoid a real welterweight champion all this time .take a hike Mr.BS

  18. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 5:38 pm

    sorry I meant Mr.Brown

  19. TijuanaBoxing on February 7th, 2010 6:35 pm

love boxing, didn’t you used to love Mayweather up until like last week? what’s up with that “boxing fan”, I mean “love boxing” lol , you’ve change your mind and nicks and your favourite boxers so many times, you used to defend Mayweather to death and now you dislike him lol, how many Coronas did you had yesterday? haha

  20. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 7:07 pm

will Tijuana I think that your right about mayweather ,but at the same time I did’t change my opinion about manny .
Don’t you think people change their mind based on actual fact?
regarding my the change of my pseudonym, you can ask your friend Edgar!!

  21. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 8:30 pm

    Tijuana
Do you know why Valero failed the medical exam in the US I am not getting it?
Do you think that Valero will fight in the US this year ?
    Thx

  22. TijuanaBoxing on February 7th, 2010 9:15 pm

Alright, well I don’t think Valero can beat Manny or Floyd right now, but with a good trainer and some new skills maybe we’ll see that fight in the next coupe of years. The fact is Valero made a statement yesterday and made some fans along the way.

  23. love boxing on February 7th, 2010 9:31 pm

    Tijuana thx for you opinion
my questions still unanswered ,can u please answer them because I am really curious why valero why failed the medical exam?

  24. TijuanaBoxing on February 7th, 2010 9:40 pm

Valero failed the MRI exam because of a previous head injury he incur after a motorcycle accident, but he already got clear to fight in Texas and he did against the Colombian Pitalua who he KO in the 3rd if I remember right, but then had issues last year when renewing his US VISA because of a DUI, he was set to fight in the under card of Pacquiao Vs. Cotto but was unable to do so because of his VISA situation.

    cool Tijuana
    Thx

    hiTijuana
Who do you like in mosely vs Flotd and knan vs
    Maidana .
I think Maidana will give Khan a very hard time .
I think Mosely will win by KO

  27. love boxing on February 8th, 2010 2:34 am

    @Tijuana
Is Margarito back in business ?
Can he fights in the US?

  28. TijuanaBoxing on February 8th, 2010 12:33 pm

I like Mosley, I hope Mosley will win but most likely Mayweather will win on points, I have always liked the underdog unless it’s a fighter I really like and his favorite.
On that other one I like Khan, Madana is a good fighter but I think Khan will take that fight.

Margarito?, I have no clue, all I know is he wasn’t mention on undercards for Pacquiao Vs Clottey, but he still shows up in boxrec, if I’m mistaken he hasn’t apply for a license in Texas yet, not sure if they will try to in the weeks ahead and add him to the card.

  29. Mr Brown on February 8th, 2010 4:11 pm

    Love boxing…..

You have a lot too learn Mayweather a boring fighter, are you serious.
Is that why they kept on asking him too come out of retirement, they all wanted to know when was he coming back. Is that the type of boring are we talking about come on man, we all demand him too come back including you my friend. Its no Bs, the man can box’s in any style that is giving too him if.
We can have this long debate on who he has fought, he fought bigger opponents before so what are you talking about……

  30. Mr Brown on February 8th, 2010 4:28 pm

    Hey Tijuana whats up……….

Too be honest with you, I might have too stay away from this fight with my prediction, they are both great fighters. Mosley has that hunger and the style and tools too beat Mayweather, but Floyd has it as well, that the problem.
We have too look at this, Shane hasn’t fought since January 09,
what type of fighter are we going too see in Shane Mosley, that’s the mystery as capable as Mosley is its fair too say it might be a disadvantage for him.

As for Edwin Vallero, I would say its 35%…..Ok I’ll be generous maybe 45% chance that he can improve on his skills. But the problem is its hard too change a guy who his only one dimentional, because he will always rely on his power, if he had been taught from the begginining on how too keep his hands up and move his daam head so that chin wouldn’t be so as available maybe just maybe. Its hard too change him now.
I was saying the same for Carlos Mayorga. If he could have found good trainer way from the beginning too teach him the fundamentals, he would have been unstoppable.

Theirs and old saying…. you should try bend the branch now before it gets way too thick. And that how some type of fighters are right now.
    Just too thick.

  31. Mr Brown on February 8th, 2010 4:39 pm

    As for Amir Khan………………
Don’t want too be bias or bold, but I can respect an olympian boxer, I believe he was a silver medalist. But the problem I have is that they are shielding this guy way too much. And his chin is a problem. Lets not forget he’s been knocked out before and it was devastating by Presscott. Do you guys remember that…….
Personally….think Maidana will knock Amir Khan out. He says he wants too come too the U.S Well its about time. But who would he fight or the question is who could he beat in the top 140 Marquez I don’t think so……

They need too stop shielding this man and make him fight.

I would love too see him fight Victor Ortiz. Ortiz would knock him out as well…….
    Yep…… I’m sorry I just don’t believe in him…….

  32. love boxing on February 8th, 2010 5:55 pm

Mr.Brown I am not saying that Floyd is not a great fighter .I know that he is a good fighter ,but
most of boxing fans want see an offensive fighter such as Tyson .Boxing fans don’t like to see a defensive fighter ans Floy’s ko ratio attest to that .
Regarding Khan agree that there is a possibility to lose his fight with Maidana. However,I disagree with you about him being shield because his last fight was obligatory and his next fight with maidana is mandatory as well.He team are building the him up for big fights
