According to a report by Rick Reeno in BoxingScene.com, Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum stated
that he is still planing in showcasing the bout between Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa (17-0, 15KO) and Celestino Caballero (33-2, 23KO) of Panama on either the 17 or 24 of July in Las Vegas, NV, and on HBO.
Caballero must first defeat Daud YOrdan (26-0, 19KO) on April 10th.
As a possible semi main event, Arum mentioned the obligatory defense of the WBC lightweight title by Humberto Soto (52-7-2, 32KO) and Anthony Peterson (30-0, 20KO).
Personally, I’ve been hearing for over a month from the Wilfredo Vazquez camp that this fight was being cooked up. From what I’ve been told the Caba group believe that this fight was going to happen sooner or latter and it wouldn’t be too smart waiting for Gamboa to improve on his skills when they can have him now. Besides, it’s no secret that Caba can’t land bigger fight anywhere else where he will be paid according to the risk involved.
