Peter Schmeichel excited about Kessler-Froch showdown

Manchester United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel cannot wait for April 24. That is when fellow Dane Mikkel Kessler will challenge WBC Super-Middleweight Champion CarlFroch in the second round of the Super Six World Boxing Classic in Herning, Denmark. Ever since hanging uphis boots, Schmeichel has continued his success off the pitch in front of the camera, working as a popular TV host for Danish pay TV giant Viasat.

Today the broadcast program for the Kessler-Froch fight was officially presented at Mikkel Kessler´s gym in Copenhagen. Schmeichel admitted he is caught between a rock and a hard place. “I think this will be a fantastic fight,” he said. “Obviously, I am pulling for my countryman Mikkel Kessler. He is a national icon and will have five million Danes behind him on April 24. But having spent so many years in England, I really like Carl Froch. Just like Mikkel, he is a tough and a proud warrior. I have no doubts that we will see an epic battle between two real champions.”

Schmeichel believes that the Super Six World Boxing Classic is boxing´s version of the Champions League. “It is such a great tournament,” he added. “What more could the fans ask for than the best fighters of a division battling it out. (Showtime General Manager) Ken Hershman, (promoter) Kalle Sauerland and (Viasat Head of Sports) Peter Norrelund really did a fantastic job to put this tournament together.”

Meanwhile, Mikkel Kessler is in perfect shape for the clash at MCH Herning. “The preparation has been going fine,” he said. “We have been working hard and all pieces are coming together. Carl Froch will not forget April 24. I have something to prove – for myself, for the 10.000 fans at MCH Herning and also the millions on TV. The Viking Warrior will be back – I will be world champion again on April 24.”

The fight will air on airing on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/PT as a one-fight card (same-day delay). In Denmark, the fight will be distributed pay-per-view on the satellite-, cable- and IP TV-platform by the following operators: Satellite and IP-TV operator Viasat, cable TV- operators YouSee and Stofa, and IP TV operator TDC. To get a hold of a pay-per-view ticket, the customers need to contact the operators. Price per ticket is 499 DKR. The starting time for the fight will be around 22.30 Danish time.
