“The Event”, huh? It sure didn’t feel like one to me. As a matter of fact, no one I watched it with will remember anything other than Pacquiao kicking Clottey’s ass and Clottey doing diddly poo about it.

Really, why get into the ring in the first place, guy? Hey, I blame Bob Scam ’em for the awful under card but Clottey had a nickname of the “hitter” and he did very little of that.

The stadium looked great and seems to be a logical choice to host a better card in the future. If you tuned in early, Buffer came out to introduce the card and the place got LOUD. Get 50,000 fight fans excited and you create classic fights.

Saturday was total garbage and let’s breaks it down a bit to examine the excrement.

John Duddy? Ok, enough of this guy. He isn’t Tye Fields but come on. Not PPV worthy by any stretch.

The abomination of the night was anyone dumb enough to put Castillo back in the ring. He was shot years ago on live HBO TV, what on earth are you doing putting him on this show or any show for that matter? You are wasting paying customers $$ with fights NO ONE wants to see?

Now that feuding is still occurring in modern day boxing, each PPV has to be dominated by those promoters’ pet projects. Screw Duddy, screw Gomez, these guys have done nothing to merit a shot on the big show. For Soto, he is good but has no sizzle, none. He is neither flashy nor exciting. Valero erases him.

Cards as big as this one should feature can’t miss great bouts and this tired formula of 4 fights with 2 to 3 being bad before, during and after they are announced has to cease.

Don King had it right back in the day when he stacked under cards with classic fights and the sport was relevant. If you forget about the under card, you slap the fans right in the face.

We remember Tyson PPV’s. The undercard had to be good because Iron Mike took care of biz in 2 rounds or less.

The solution seems obvious. The promoters need to stop fighting and put their egos’ aside for the better of the sport and what drives it, the fans. MMA and the UFC seem here to stay and they put on shows that pack the house and boxing has to face the reality that fight fans are not stupid and expect more for $50-$60 PPV’s.

  1. For once I agree with love boxing lol…this undercard was lame…the only fight that I got into was Sotto’s fight…he showed some great boxing skills other than that the night was boring…Friday night fights are way better than this card…Bob knows he can get so many views just by putting manny on the card…what we need to is stop buying his pay per views..at least golden boy is giving us Canelo Alvarez on the upcoming pay per view with mayweathe/mosley…how about you take notes Bob and give the people there moneys worth!
