Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is ready for his fight for the WBC super welterweight silver championship against Luciano Cuello on Saturday at the VFG Arena in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Many believe “Canelo” will be the next great Mexican fighter. “I feel very good,” he said. “I’m very happy because of the good training here in Tepic (Nayarit, Mexico). I think this has been one of the best in my career and now I just have to work on the weigh-in. It was hard work, with a lot of sacrifice and dedication. All the team is at the maximum and without any doubt we are here to win…even by knock out.” He added “Canello can say anything, but the silver/green will be for Mexico.”

Former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (44-7, 38 KOs) of Mexico will now face Ira Terry (24-3, 14 KOs) of Tennessee July 24th. The bout will be a featherweight main event to take place in Campeche, Campeche, Mexico. Gonzalez was originally scheduled to face Hisashi Amagasa (15-4-2, 12 KOs) of Japan who had verbally accepted and was sent a contract, but then backed out.

WBA super world featherweight champion Chris “The Dragon” John (43-0, 22 KOs) will be in action on July 26 in Jakarta, Indonesia he will defend the championship against South American featherweight champion Fernando “El Vasco” Saucedo (38-4-3, 1 KO) of Argentina over twelve rounds.

  1. I look forward to watching Alvarez fight again. Hopefully next year he can challenge for a world title after he defeats top ten level competition.
