With fans from the United States to England to Argentina clamoring for it for well over a year, super lightweight supremacy will finally be decided on Saturday, December 11, when British superstar Amir “King” Khan returns to the United States for his second consecutive bout to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) 140-pound World Championship against ferocious Argentinean knockout artist and WBA Super Lightweight Interim World Champion Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The highly anticipated bout will be televised live in the United States on HBO’s World Championship Boxing.

“Maidana has been doing a lot of talking and he’s talked his way into a fight now,” said Khan. “Unfortunately for him, his mouth isn’t going to help him in the ring and I’m going to prove to him that I’m on another level on December 11.”

Maidana responded by saying, “Khan’s been running from me for a long time, but the running stops on December 11. I’ll show him how a champion acts and fights when we get into the ring in Las Vegas.”

Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions said, “This is a fight the fans have asked for and we’re giving it to them as an early holiday present. I believe these are the two of the top 140-pound fighters in the world and with Khan’s speed and Maidana’s power, this fight is going to be explosive.”

“Marcos has proven he is a force to be reckoned with in the 140-pound division and we are confident that he will expose Amir’s flaws and come out with his hands raised in victory,” Dietmar Poszwa, of Universum Box Promotion, Maidana’s co-promoter. “December 11 is going to be an explosive night and you will not want to miss it.”

Khan vs. Maidana, a 12-round WBA Super Lightweight World Championship bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Khan Promotions and Universum Box Promotion. The HBO World Championship Boxing broadcast begins at 9:30pm ET / 6:30pm PT.

  1. This fight of Amir Khan vs Maidana, if Khan wins will prove whether he is really worthy to be called a champion. His managers has been hovering around for quite a time to avoid worthy challengers. And also it will be another test of the capabilities of the illustrious boxing coach Freddie Roach, if he can mold Amir to become a true champion in the ranks of boxing icons Mayweather,Jr and Sugar Ray Leonard ,who like Khan are Olympic medalist. If he lose just this bout then he has joined the ranks of his compatriot, Prince Hamed as “paper boxing champion”, sorry that’s how I see after Khan’s trumpeted amateur career. This is professional boxing, fellas!

  2. well khan hasnt fought anyone worthy yet. this will be a good fight for him to proove alittle something. but to my opinion khan hasnt prooven anything yet. he beat a bunch of no names lets see what he does with a power puncher. may the best man win

  3. Best thing about this fight- both hit hard and both can go down in one big shot. BBQ and beer that day for sure!!!!

  4. Hey LOVE BOXING, Sorry to say that you are very ‘unique” in the sense that the ONLY racist comments I’ve seen on this site happen to be YOUR’S. That’s not something I would be proud of IF I were you. But… then again, you anit me, thank God. You’re now officially in a “class” of your own, a class-LESS one. That wasn’t cool, amigo. Peace??

  5. MANNY Yes, Khan’s chin isn’t “shock resisitant” by no means but.. Ortiz PROVED that Maidana’s chin ISN’T made of iron either, right? BOTH can be put down but Maidana’s LACK of defense and Khan accurate fast hands and superior boxing abilities will make the difference, in my opinion.

  6. It’s going to be a good fight…..I think Maidana has the power and the heart to beat khan…..Maidana has a good chin and can take a punch….and Khan…if u catch him with a good punch he’s done…. U saw wT happend in his loss……

  7. I have a copy of Maidana’s fight with Corley. Firstly, he wasn’t too impressive. As a matter of fact, and to be honest, I wasn’t too impressed with his win over Victor Ortiz mainly because he was too easy to hit. As for the Corley fight, I believe that one of the hometown Argentine commentators voted the fight a DRAW.

Anyway, as of right now I’m going with Khan, by KNOCKOUT!! And… IF Maidana would’ve been rematching Ortiz instead, without much hesitation I’d go with Ortiz!
