Unbeaten Saul Alvarez, fresh off of his spectacular sixth round knockout victory over former World Champion Carlos “Tata” Baldomir, Baldomir was taken to the hospital for observation. “He’s fine,” said his Manager after the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora bout this past Saturday at Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center. “We sent him there just as a precaution.” Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has re-signed with Golden Boy Promotions. Due to a confidentiality clause, terms of the multi-year deal will not be disclosed.

“I’m happy with my performance against Baldomir and to re-sign with Golden Boy Promotions,” said Alvarez, who defended his WBC Silver Super Welterweight title in the victory. “Getting to this point in my career has been a team effort, and with the people I have around me, I’m confident that the next step will be a World Championship.”

“If anyone wasn’t convinced that ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is a future World Champion, they have to be believers now,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “At just 20 years old, he knocked out a tough former World Champion who had only been knocked out one time in 64 fights and that was 16 years ago. He is going to be a star in this sport for a long time, and we’re proud to have him on our team.”

Some of those plans were hinted at by De La Hoya as he announced the date for Alvarez’s next visit in between the ropes.

“We have big plans for Alvarez, December 4th he will be fighting in Mexico,” De La Hoya stated. “He wants to fight the big names but we want to slow him down. He just turned 20. We want him to get experience so when he faces the Mayweathers and the Pacquiaos, we want him ready to win.”

  1. I also he is overrated to some extent. He has a record that looks good on paper. None of his victories have been against a top ten guy. He played it toooo safe against Baldomir if you ask me.

  2. He’s only a baby still(20 years old)Give the youngster two or three years. Look at kobe bryant at 20, at look at him today. Big difference.Look at chavez jr.he could of went to tne phillipines with manny pacquiao to train for his own fight with miguel cotto, and get the best sparring in the world, but this overated fighter who’s got no huevos, and really didn’t want to fight cotto said” I don’t want to go to the phillapines”talk about being overated and really scared.Let him fight alvarez, and see who’s overated!

  3. sergio mora was pathetic! He should be ashamed to call himself a mexican fighter. all he did was run and hold! The fact that somehow he was given the gift of a draw proves that god does exists! Because he was definately blessed by that decision.
