Former world champion Jorge “La Hiena” Barrios (49-5-1, 34 KOs) of Argentina returns to the ring for the first time after killing a 20-year-old woman during a vehicle accident in Mar de Plata, Argentina earlier this year.

I guess you only do 7 months in jail for killing a person in Argentina. Sorry If I sound a bit harsh but I don’t think its right that Barrios is a free man after running over an innocent victim and her child over his drunkenness.

If you want to support this murderer, he will be fighting on Friday, October 1st, against Humberto Martinez (19-4-1, 14KOs) of Colombia in a 10 round lightweight main event.

The semi-main event will feature a welterweight rematch between Hector “Tigre” Saldivia (34-2, 27 KOs) of Argentina versus countryman Jorge “Chino” Miranda (36-9, 13 KOs). Saldivia stopped Miranda in one round back in March of 2008. Both bouts will air live on the HBO Plus service in Latin America beginning at 10:00pm local time (9:00pm ET). In the United States the TeleFutura broadcast will begin at 11:30pm ET / PT (10:30pm CT).

  1. When an individual makes the choice to drink alcohol it is their responsibility to know they have a designated driver or plans for a taxi. There is clear intent and lack of concern for the safety of others on the road when one drives under the influence. A vehicle becomes a deadly weapon with a drunk driver behind the wheel. An accident is a car accident with a sober driver. A vehicular homicide is with a drunk driver behind the wheel in an accident. They made a choice while sober to go somewhere and drink and risk our families lives for their fun night out. People in my county get more time for crimes that didnt harm anyone. 7 months is just unbelievable! Good for you Edgar. We have to speak up. It’s crazy that people can commit crimes against others and still get us to pay to watch them perform.

  2. The fact that he got behind the wheel of his car whilst intoxicated, he committed an offence, if he knew he would be going out to drink, he should have caught a taxi there and back.

  3. I believe if someone murders another person if the murderer is under the influienc they still should be charged with murder, not manslaughter.

  4. Brother, I think you better converse with a friend lawyer. Regardless of who the victim is, any death resulting from an UNINTENTIONAL ACT (say, ACCIDENT)is never a murder. Never allow your emotion to rule over your logic. There is no such thing as MURDER BY ACCIDENT (precisely because of the absence of malice or intent to commit the crime of murder). Maybe HOMICIDE or GROSS NEGLIGENCE RESULTING IN DEATH.

  5. Yes, I also agree that he shouldn’t allowed to drive again. There’s just some penalties that must be enforced no matter how sorry or rehabed one might be. You PLAY you PAY!

  6. Edgar, I can relate to your article but… well… hmmmm… ahhhh… I’m sure that we practically ALL have drunk drivers in our own families (brothers or cousins, uncles, etc., or possibly we ourselves have done it at one time or another in our lives) who have possibly have had accidents due to “driving impaired” or have been arrested for D.U.I. or something related. I don’t know whether we’d be as harsh on them if they, with NO premeditated intent, had an accident which resulted in the death of innocent victims. With over 20 years of working in drug and alcohol rehab centers I have seen/read of MANY cases where the driver has had accidents while ‘driving impaired’ under the influence of prescribed medications and other drugs, legal and not legal. Sometimes the warning lable on the medication recommends that the person should avoid driving whan taking said medication, right? Everyone that knowingly drives a car under ‘impared conditions’ is CRIMMINALLY NEGLIGENT to some extent.

‘Vehicular Homicide’ is not ‘murder’ although I also would be exreeemly upset if the victims were MY family members, no doubt, and maybe wouldn’t be as gracious. BUT.. what really ticks me off is the fact that he, Jorge Barrios, gets a “slap on the wrist” and an absurd, completely unperceiveable, unacceptable SEVEN MONTH prison sentence for the crime committed.

  7. I agree with you Edgar. first of all some one who drinks or is under the influence of alcohol shouldn’t be driving. The fact that he killed not one but two innocent people “under the influence of alcohol” makes him a murder.

  8. What if that was your wife he killed and not only did he kill her, but your kid too?

Are you going to be OK with that because it was an ACCIDENT?

another good example: That drunk driver who killed Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart tell his fans and family its ok because the drunk driver didn’t meant to kill him.

  9. With due respect, Edgar,I don’t think it is proper to call a person murderer if there was really no intention to harm or kill a person. The term “murder” itself connotes MALICIOUS (INTENTIONAL) killing of another person. Since it was accidental, there was no intent. It is wrong to call the act murder. May be you wrote this piece to hype the fight.
