In the main event on Saturday night at the Dorado Soccer Stadium in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, three-division world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce (55-6-2, 42 KOs) and former world champion Lorenzo “Lencho” Parra (31-2-1, 18 KOs) fought to a ten rounder which ended in a controversy, it was originally announced as a draw, and then announced as a split decision for Arce after local officials said one of the scorecards was incorrectly filled in. Gerardo Zazueta, head of the Culiacan Boxing & Wrestling Commission says that for now the original decision will stand. There will be a hearing of the entire commission to review the situation to then make a decision as to whether there was an error and the result needs to be changed.

WBC lightweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto (53-7-2, 32 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Fidel Monterrosa (24-1, 18 KOs). The tough and sometimes dirty fight was marred by slippery conditions inside the side that left Soto and Monterrosa slipping and sliding all night long. Scores were 115-112, 115-112, and 118-109.

Undefeated welterweight prospect Omar “Businessman” Chavez (24-0-1, 17 KOs) scored a fourth round KO over Rodrigo Juarez (15-12-1, 11 KOs). A left-right-left-right combination sent Juarez down for the count at 2:47. They had met a couple of months back with Chavez getting the nod on a very close fight. No question this time.

  1. EZ,
I agree and to me Arce has ALWAYS been overrated. He lost to a retired Micheal Carbajal at a time when he was at the top of his game, even at 19. He has an agressive style that people like and appreciate. I cetainly enjoyed his fights. I even bought tickets to see him fight live a few years ago. He has the warrior mentality. I still think he needs to rematch and beat his previous conquerors before he demands title fights.

  2. JESUS, yes at this point of his career Arce is being overrated. I’ve been saying it over the past year myself, although he’s been one of my favorites in the past.

Now, I saw the fight. I THOUGHT THAT Arce’s image was tarnished by the way he whinned, complained and pracitaclly cried at any marginal infraction while he himself landed his share of low blows, entered desperately with his head low or hit Parra with his desperate shoulder. I THOUGHT THAT the deductiobn was uncalled for because it was little more than a tap behind the head. In my time I wouldn’t have dared whinned/cried/complained of something like that. I thought that his sheap “act” of lowering of his hands in a corner and daring Parra to hit him was dumb. I THOUGHT THAT he seemed to be trying to impress the judges that he was “Da Man” in the ring while he was getting smacked around in the process. I THOUGHT THAT HE LOST but accepted a draw decision. Funny how the scores WEREN”T announced like in the previous fight only to later go behind closed doors and dubiously and suspiciously declare the very unmipressive El Travieso the “winner” or… whinner or both, which ever you please.

  3. Jorge Arce is so overrated that he has no business demanding a championship fight. (This was a title eliminator fight )He has never beaten a top ten fighter when they were in their prime.

Let him rematch Vic Darchinyan or even Simphiwe Nongqayi and win before he goes demanding a title fight.
