As we previously stated Fernando Montiel was in a motorcycle accident where he injured his right leg this pass weekend. Montiel and a friend were riding in Alamos, Mexico, a resort town a couple of hours from his home in Los Mochis The plan was for Montiel to ride around the track as a passenger on the back of a motorcycle as a special guest for a motorcycle event, however one of the curves had loose gravel and Montiel’s friend lost control and went into a skid. The 31-year-old Montiel suffered several scrapes on his body, the most serious on his right leg up to the shin, but fortunately no fractures.

“He got very scared and is very sad by the accident, but the leg is not fractured,” Top Rank spokesman Ricardo Jimenez said.

Jimenez said Montiel had a “deep wound” and that he was advised to stay off the leg, which is heavily bandaged, for three weeks.

His November bout was supposed to serve as a final tune-up before taking on former flyweight titlist and interim junior bantamweight titlist Nonito Donaire on Feb. 19.

“Thank God I’m fine,” said Ko-chulito. “It was a tremendous shock. I never should have ridden on that bike, but it was an accident without consequences. This teaches me a lesson to be careful and not to expose myself to unnecessary risks. I thank my family, friends and the fans who through the social networks have been asking about my health. In three weeks we’ll be in the gym.”

  1. Good news there, glad it was nothing too bad. Even more glad that the fight with Donaire wont be postponed. (as long as neither one gets injured)
