Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Sucks, Period!

As I continue go over the Best of 2010 picks by the World Boxing Council, I have to stop and think WTF were they thinking. Seriously, its a big disappointment. The Hope and Revelation of the year award went to Julio Cesar and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. What did Chavez Jr. do in 2010 that will qualify him for any award?

He only fought John Duddy in late June and withdrew from fighting the remainder of the year. Yeah, he has an undefeated record of 41 wins with 30KOs with 1 draw but who has he beaten? I could have the same record if I fought nothing but bums. Alvarez doesn’t deserve to share any awards with a kid who lives off his dad’s last name.

Mexico’s red-headed, freckle-faced Alvarez has the desire to be great and he will. Alvarez dropped out of school in about eighth grade to box and turned pro at 15 with no amateur experience. He’s a very mature 20-year-old that does not need to be compared to Chavez Jr.

One thing the WBC got right was to give the fighter of the year award to Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez. Martinez won the WBC middleweight world title by defeating Kelly Pavlik and dramatically knocked out Paul Williams in his first title defense which also earned him the knockout of the year. Two Great Fights in 2010.

What’s your opinion, does Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. deserve any awards for 2010?

  1. I guess what it all boils down to is this…

Until Chavez fights and beats a legit top ten opponent with wins against ranked opponents, he will always be a bum in the eyes of REAL fight fans. I don’t blame the WBC and Top Rank for using and protecting this kid. He sells tickets better than a lot of other fighters. The WBC and Top Rank laugh all the way to the bank after every Chavez fight.

  2. @Jonny Boy Right on the money!! Death isn’t a legit boxing fan, he’s an over zealous “Chavez Fanatic” and extreme hugger. His insults only show how little he knows about the sport. If Chavez was actually the ‘real deal’ I wouldn’t have any problems in giving him his props, but he ISN’T what he’s been hyped up to be. I wish he were because all this has left a terrible impression on our sport. The only thing that the WBC/Suliaman have done is u$e him and given boxing another BLACK EYE as well.

I’m convinced that even Julio Jr himself knows that he’s not as good as guys like Death believe he is. He’s not that dumb, by no means. But.. he’s cashing in on all this hype and will continue to do so. Does he deserve all the negative feedback?? YES HE DOES because HE’S GETTING PAID for the “fistic talent” that he DOESN’T HAVE!! Plain and simple.

  3. I love the hardcore JCC Jr. fans like Death, even though this article is completely true they will deny and deny. Can’t even find anything in the article that’s not true so all he can do is try to insult the author. We all know Jr. is a paper champ, an over privileged nobody who will milk all he could out of his last name. Yet guys like Death have no problem with that, blind to the fact that if he wasn’t Chavez Jr. Death wouldn’t even know who the hell he was. He does not have the talent to make it without his last name, how a guy like that has nut huggers like Death is beyond me. I am a big Chavez Sr. fan but even I know Jr. is nothing and I won’t pretend he is anything more. A fake champion deserves fake boxing fans like death.

  4. @Edgar You know, that same thought did IN FACT cross my mind. You’re to big of a threat for Junior. He’d punk out by paying his personal physician to allege something like UNCONTROLLABLE DIARRHEA, NERVOUS BREAKDOWN or HEART & COJONES TROUBLE or whatever. Sorry Edgar, you’ll just have to move on, forget this chump. LOL!!!

  5. @Death AKA Messi get off chavez jr band wagon..

I bet if Chavez and I had to fight I will win… why cause Chavez will probably cancel fight. he might get sick or hurt before the fight..

what a great champion he is…

  6. MR. DEATH, I don’t know if Edgar would defeat Canelo but… he probably could kick Julio Jr’s OVER-hyped butt from East Los to Sonora Sinaloa and back. You probably could too!!

  7. I would like to see the author of this article to put on gloves and fight.
Oh, wait… he’s too scared and is too much of a cunt to do it.

Chavez Jr and Saul will kick your ass

  8. i hate this retard that gets the fights in a silver plater , “peleas arregladas” re-arrange fights
everyone knows it come on it’s their move make it look like he is good but to tell you the true he is the worst , i just hate him

  9. both chavez and canelo are good fighters, who have fought hard in thier careers…both reserve the right to begin fighting for the championship..personally..however..i am inclining more of a favor towards el canelo..have you seen his bouts…this guy can throw a punch..

  10. @Kevin With all due respects but.. in other words you believe that because he had no amateur experience it’s STILL not time to step it up? Even though he’s been a PROFESSIONAL for EIGHT years?? If that’s the case I’m sure you agree that he hasn’t EARNED this title opportunity, correct? After all, according to your comment it seems that you yourself are admitting that he hasn’t fought any fighters that resemble top opposition.

Look, with all the PROFESSIONAL fights he’s had it surely makes up for his lack of amateur experience. Many other fighters have had VERY LITTLE/NO amateur experience yet stepped it up long ago, for example Wilfredo Vazquez Jr!! There are MANY other examples. How about those who turned pro at age 14/15/16, correct?? How much amateur experience did they actually have before turning pro fighting other 14/15 years olds like them??

Let’s face it, it’s NOT that he lacks experience, what he DOES lack is the TALENT to defeat true B/B+ level opposition, which is THEE reason why he will not be allowed to get in the ring with them. He just plain has reached his peak as far as talent goes. Yes, he’s PEAKED OUT, he isn’t gonna get much better IF at all. He’s an easy to market and HYPE “name” fighter WITHOUT the the talent to back the HYPE!! He just doesn’t have it, plain and simple. Actually, there’s nothing wrong with not being good enough to compete with the best. He’s making a living, a good one, milking his father’s name and fame, nothing wrong with that. At least he cojones and enough skills to do accomplish that. After all it’s HIS name too, and His father’s fame and HIS RIGHT to exploit it all for HIS benefit. Honestly, I’d be tempted to do the same.

I predicted YEARS ago that WBC/Suliaman would “create” “find” “fix” “invent” a way to have Chavez Jr fighting for some vacated title against the WEAKEST possible link, and even posted it on this same boxing site last year, and I believe that I was 100% correct. Don’t you??

When a super hyped fighter with little substance receives an UNDESERVED title opportunity the critics will make the opinions known, it’s INEVITABLE, this I’m sure you understand regardless whether you agree with the critic or not.

Oh well… did realize that I’ve typed all of this so quick!! Later!!

  11. He’s too average he’s not special in any department he’s strictly a step above Journeymen and Club fighters and thats what he’s gonna keep fighting he’s already gonna be pretty much given a belt so it will look like he actually accomplished something but we all know the truth. He’s been fighting this kind of competition too long and it’s become inexcusable.

  12. Thats right jesus it doesnt take 50 fights to prove if your ready to take on a top fighter. This kid is being handled with alot of care, and as far as I can see he’s being carried threw his intire career (if you can call that a career).

  13. Chavez has been a pro for a good 7 years and has a better record than Floyd Mayweather. How much more time does he need ???

  14. Chavez has very little amateur experience. This is why they are taking him slow.He has alot to learn.People watch him fight thats why he does ppv. What about povetkin in the heavy weight division. He was the no 1 contender for the klitchko belt.He declined to fight. He was a 2004 Gold medalist in the olympics.3 amateur fights only.Give him time.

  15. Chevez Jr is not a world class fighter, he sucks ass. Why wont they put him in with a world class fighter. I’ll tell you why, because if they do. He’ll get his ass kicked and will be see as the loser that he is!

  16. Julio Cesar needs to show what he is really made out of and yes it is time for a true test. He does need to step up and time to prove himself worthy.

  17. This guy is a joke piggy backing on his last name. Throw him to the wolves already and let somebody expose him. Sorry Jr. not even Roach gonna make you anywhere near what your dad was.

  18. Chavez on ppv?? That shit has to stop…. I like Jr , but I’m loosing a lot of respect for, he has to prove something soon, if not he needs to do something else,, maybe telenovelas….lol….and that goes for his brother Omar chavez also……..

  19. WTF!? A fight with Billy on PPV? Come on! Give us a break for God’s sake!

This Jr. is like a termite that’s damaging the sport! How I wish this kid would learn his lesson as early as possible. Hope somebody would call him up and give him the beating he deserve. Damn it!

  20. ppv lmaoooo yea ok if it was up to me they will die of hunger cause i wont be paying for this. chavez hasnt prooved nothn now fighting billy the who and its on ppv lmaoooo good luck promoting that one

  21. Billy WHO???? hahahahaha!!! As fight day nears Team Chavez will probably consider Billy WHO too much of a risk and DEMAND that Arum and search Skid Row for some poor retired wine-o boxer as a substitute opponent. Or.. he might just plain CANCEL OUT AGAIN claiming that he has: a)the flu b)fever c)the runs d)cramps e)scyzophrenia f)breast cancer g)yeast infection h)ovary tumors i)dandruff j)scabbies k)stinky feet l)bad back m)bad ankle n)bad breath o)allergy p)pussyfied cold feet or… ALL of the fore-mentioned.

Look, it’s okay if you look for a “gimmie” opponent once in a while but not ALL the time and not Billy WHO, not when the world is waiting for him to MAN UP!!

  22. Update:

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is supposedly schedule to fight Billy Lyell in Culiaca, Sinaloa,, Mexico on January 29, 2011.

Now, Lets analyze who Billy Lyell is? Well. He has 8 Loses with only 22 pro fights he only has 4 KOs what dose that tell you?

Another hand picked opponent. I mean for some one who wants to make a name for him self sure is not trying hard enough.

Oh, and to make this even better this will be Pay Per View.

  23. I’m agreeing with edgar and almost everybody else, Chaves does suck. I also agree with EZ E too. They are trying really hard to hype this kid up and find him a title shot or at least a big pay day where he wont lose face. Most of the really good contenders out there are too much for him, and I believe thats why his people are having a hard time promoting/marketing him. The only thing they have to work with is his name. The kid is good but he isnt great, not even close. Tell it how it is edgar, They cant fool the real boxing fans. The kid has to prove himself and thats all there is to it. I wont say he’s trying to ride his daddys coattails, but his promoters are.

  24. @ Edgar, I totally agree. There was a time when most of us were willing to accept Team Chavez fishing around for the “right” opponents in their efforts to allow the Kid to mature and cut the Kis much slack. BUT.. it’s time to step it up a bit, I’d say. He can fight Rubio or Mora but even then they would probably considered TOO DANGEROUS, so I doubt they would dare take those fights and risk it all. And if Mora and Rubio are TOO RISKY for Chavez Jr then how good is he really?? I don’t think he can EVER beat Mora, not now nor next year nor the year after regardless of whether Roach is in his corner or not. Freddie is a damn good trainer but NOT A MAGICIAN, especially when it comes to Chavez Jr, who’s surely not as good as they HYPE him up too be, as we both and most all agree.

  25. @ariel….WATTT? ok first of all chavez does suck plain and simple. el canelo aint shit either. none of them have prooved anything to be considered elite or close to it. canelo is 20 years old with 36 unknown fights. please dont say cottos brother because he’s not all that good. chavez jr has 43 fights at age 24. they are trying to build hype with these fighters by boosting up there records. they both aint proove nothing to me. but i still like canelo better than chavez jr.

  26. @Ariel: With all due respects but.. NO, I wouldn’t say that they are on the same level. They WERE about a year ago but.. NOY ANY MORE!! Canelo has passed him by in a relatively short period of time. Alvarez is already willing to step it up another notch will the Chavez Jr team is still looking “milking the cow” until Arum and the WBC come up with a plan to convert his “Silver title” into a world title before he’s forced to face a true top contender and LOSE!! If they, Chavez and Alvarez, would fight each other at 154Lbs right now WHO would you say would win??

The Duddy fight?? “Madera”?? What “madera”?? Let’s be honest, thee ONLY thing that Chavez Jr proved by defeating Duddy was ONLY that, but so could about 50 other top 154 and 160Lb’ers too!! DUDDY REALLY, REALLY, REALLY SUCKS!!

I’ll invite you to go through the truly reliable non-partisan rankings, as I did, and I DIDN’T find anybody among the top 15 Middleweights nor Jr Middleweights that Chavez can defeat. You probably WON’T neither. Peace/Paz!!

  27. Edgar;did you watch Chavez jr. vs Duddy fight? because in that fight chavez jr showed that he has “madera” to be a good champion.El “canelo” Alvarez is a good fighter, but on his last fight I did not like his performance. I’am not agreeing with you that Chavez jr. sucks, I think he and “el canelo are at the same level.

  28. @EZ E well said. I am getting lots of views about this article, but its the truth and that is why I think no one can really back up Chavez Jr anymore. His taking our money. Every fight he dose is Pay Per View and there crapy fights. Some one has to step up and call him out, until he proves me wrong I will show him respect but until then Chavez Jr. Sucks!!!

  29. Edgar, I have to agree 100% with your article. He’s basically ALL hype. But the sad part of it all is that the WBC is dead set on making him a WORLD champion. The way I see it, the WBC/Suliaman, will find a way by probably vacatlng some title and declare Chavez Jr the #1 contender. He will then be matched with a “handy” and sudden pushover #2 mandatory challenger and….. BINGO!! Chavez Jr is a “world champ”!! Well… maybe not exactly like that but I’m sure you get the idea. Chavez is making the task quite difficult because he…. ahhhh… isn’t that good. OR…. as you put it, he in fact does suck, especially if you compare him to all the hype and build-up he gotten.

I thought you were gonna get alot of negative responses because of your very open and daring opinion concerning the son of one of the most respected Legends of the sport, the man most fans consider THEE BEST Mexican fighter of ALL TIMES!! Over the past 6 months I’ve noticed that reality has finally set in and “The Chavez Jr Bandwagon” has lost some of their supporters. But.. The Bobfather will get the hype wheels rolling and one again shine up the Kid’s image before he’s finally thrown to the wolves at a nice profit. It’s what Arum does best. At the end everybody will depart with $$$ in the bank.
