For sometime now, there has been a back and forth argument if the fight between Erik “El Terrible” Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez will even happen on April 09 at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. At this time, rumor is that Marquez doesn’t want to fight anyone and just like Shane Mosley did, Marquez is planning to leave Golden Boy Promotions.

Marquez apparently expects a bigger purse and has stated, “If they want me to stay, they must to treat me like a champion or there will be no April fight with Morales or anyone.”

Other sources have indicated that Golden Boy has been trying to find a new opponent for Morales and the name of Marcos Maidana has been mentioned in a possible fight for the WBA interim super lightweight title but the news here is that Marquez is willing to leave Golden Boy in hopes of getting a third fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Being that Top Rank who promotes Manny Pacquiao doesn’t and probably will never do business with Golden Boy, the only way Marquez will ever get a third shot at the Filipino icon is to say good bye to Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions and the Golden boy himself, Oscar de La Hoya.

There was talk of negotiating a third chapter of Pacquiao-Marquez after the Michael Katsidis fight but those talks didn’t go too far. We just have to wait and see what Marquez plans to do.

Do you think it would be a good move for Marquez to leave Golden Boy?

  1. PAC even said his best weight was 140, that’s a better weIght to fight at.PAC is cherry picking again as usual, and people wonder why they discredit pacquaiO

  2. Marquez is making himself look really desprit. He should take whatever good fights he can get right now. A fight with morales would have been good while he waits to see if a rematch with pacman can even happen. I’m with brown, a fight with khan would be very interesting. Pacman is the top dog right now and everyone wants a shot (except Floyd of coures)lol thats why I’m not bying that cherry picking B/S. He can only fight one man at a time and the promoters are going to take full advantage of that. Just remember guys pacman earned the right to cherry pick a little. Except for me and bori4life I didnt hear youall complaining when floyd was cherrypicked his entire career. You were all on his nuttsack, so when floyd does it its good buisness but when some else does it their shady, cowards, or cherrypicking right? what a bunch of B/S. If your going to have a standerd than have the same standerds for all boxers.

  3. hope to see the 3rd match of manny and marquez.catch weight of 147 lbs? i hope arum would be happy with that but its fair to be at 145 lbs base on both last fight weight

  5. 3rd fight will be exciting between pacman and marquez but the issue of catch weight should be fair according to which weight they both last have fought.for pacquiao from 154lbs which can justify catching the weight back down to 145lbs otherwise he would look like a challenger.

  7. JMM said he won the last two outings with Pacman. So why is he demanding a rematch? He just want to get a nice purse that’s why he’s eager to fight Pacman, which I think would not going to happen. Pacman and Arum can still make a lot of money even without thinking of a rematch with JMM.

  8. Marquez will not get another opportunity to fight Pacquio its not going too happen. Bob Arum will not let that happen its all about the mighty dollar for Arum, He’s kind of like a dictator, Pacquio has no say.

Marquez really needs to give up on the dream of getting a another rematch.
He’s a fine fighter his legacy will still be there no matter what, that’s the most important thing. Would love too see Marquez fight Amir khan.
That would be a more intriguing fight.

  9. Marquez is looking for another Pacquiao showdown. Ther money that comes with that fights is better than anything he could get for fighting Morales.

  10. @Examiner, They wan’t Marquez to step up to Welterweight two divisions above his own at his age he moves up he runs the risk of never being the same after jumping weights. (look what happend to RJJ) So if Pacquiao want’s to play games at a weight where he can’t even match himself then Marquez deserves what he’s asking. So stop hating on Marquez just cuz your boy cherry picking Pacquiao doesn’t wan’t to have a fair fight with him. Honestly buddy I don’t know how you can hate a true warrior like Marquez. You got to give him props for going down in fights only to get up and fight his way right back in. If you can’t appreciate that then your not a true fan. I give Pacquiao his credit because he is a warrior he just hasn’t shown it lately. Which is why I call him a cherry picker now because thats what he’s doing. When has Marquez cherry-picked a fight?

  11. demanding to meet marquez at 145 when he cant even make weight is horrible. pacman and arum tends to make to many excuses when it comes down to fighting a fighter in a hot streak. manny never fought chris john and left the division. pacman just puts up excuses and fights guys past there prime, after a k’o lost, or just makes them go up to a weight thats unconftable to them while he dont do shit. marquez and pacman will make more money than this mosley bullshit.

  12. If he cannot get himself a fight with Pacquiao, he has himself to blame. He has been claiming that he has defeated Pacquiao twice already. If that’s the case, what’s the logic of fighting someone whom he has already “defeated” twice? a 2-time loser to him? And he has been reported to have demanded a high price for the rematch which arum immediately turned down. He had already been offered a rematch before for $750th, turned it down, and accepted a fight with Indonesia’s Cris John for only $30th and lost. This pee drinker is only looking for a big retirement pay.
