Nate Campbell, Don’t Come Back

Nate Campbell, who turned 39 on March 7, announced his retirement last November when he lost to Walter Estrada. He basically said he struggled and he didn’t want to be anyone’s opponent which is the best thing he could have done. I was really disappointed when he didn’t want to continue his fight with Timothy Bradley because of the cut over his left eye. Thecut wasn’t serious to stop the fight, even his corner told him to continue fighting.

The so called “Galaxxy Warrior” couldn’t keep his word and now, it’s time for Campbell to make a comeback. Campbell will face rising junior welterweight Danny Garcia (20-0, 14 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round fight April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the Erik Morales-Marcos Maidana undercard. The fight will not be telecast on the HBO PPV.

We all know why he is coming back, money, money, money. I guess selling used car engines is not enough and it’s a shame to see a great warrior lose to a young amateur over money to help him build his resume.

What’s your opinion, do you want to see Campbell back in the ring?

  1. The junior welterweight division has a lot of talent right now. Campbell better know what he’s doing. You always hate to see a warrior go away.

  2. @ Shawn, Campbell had some great talent in his prime, but he’s older now and his talent has diminished much since then. Prime Campbell would have walked all over this kid a few years back but he isn’t the same anymore. I would like to see him beat Garcia and won’t rule him out to pull it off I think Garcia is a b-level fighter at best maybe slightly above your average fighter. I’m more concerned about how he will fair against tough competition which there is plenty of at Jr. Welterweight that he will end up taking unnecessary punishment. I mean would you like to see him in with the likes of a big puncher like Maidana at this state in Campbell’s career?

  3. I think Campbell has enough left to be this over hyped Kid.. Your talking about the Galaxxy Warrior. 3x Lightweight Champion of the world 2 years ago dropped ALI funeka 2 times… I’M sure Campbell wins this one don’t bet against him.. Ive seen him in Camp he looks vicious..

  4. Juan Diaz should try and get a rematch vs Campbell. That would make them both decent money. Sort of a crossroads fight for both.

  5. Ya know something folks, I do agree that Campbell should stay retired BUT he didn’t leave with much money, he’s not financially stable by no means AND.. if the promoters keep throwing decent paydays at him, well, he’s going to take the bait. And they, the promoters, know it. He’s basically cashing in all the “marketability chips” his NAME has left.

Another thing, I’m not too sold out on Danny Garcia neither. I think he’s small short armed welter with defensive flaws that likes to bang and that won’t be successful at the next level. If there’s one fairly good fight left in “The Galaxy Warrior” he might be able to expose some of Garcia’s limitations, even if he doesn’t win.

  6. I don’t see the point he’s a finished fighter and should just stay away he had his run but he no longer has the ability to compete with the top fighters in Lightweight or Jr. Welterweight.
