Paul Williams, who plans to return to that division following his second-round knockout loss to middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in November, is slated to return to the ring June 11 on HBO. Originally, there was talk of Williams coming back April 30, but that was pushed back. According to promoter Dan Goossen, he will go over potential opponents with HBO next week. For the televised undercard, junior featherweight titlist Akifumi Shimoda (23-2-1, 10 KOs) of Japan could come stateside to make a tough mandatory defense against 23-year-old rising contender Rico Ramos (19-0, 10 KOs), 23, who is also promoted by Goossen.

  1. He’ll get an easy fight to see how’s he doing.
He’ll do just fine, that brutal KO from Martinez was not an accumulation of punches, and even though it was brutal it save him from getting a prolong beating because Martinez was gonna keep on landing punches all night.

Good to see Paul back in the ring soon!

  2. Although Williams usually faces good caliber opposition my guess is that this time he will be matched ‘soft’ as he prepares to once again attempts prove that he is a major force anywhere from the 147 to 160 pound weight divisions, although I feel that he shouldn’t be fighting under 154Lbs. despite the devastating he suffered at the hands of Martinez he still is a fighter most contenders and champions would rather avoid, mainly due to his physical dimensions. After he gets by this or another minor obstacle we can surely expect Goossen to match him against a top level opponent, no doubt.

  3. It will be interesting to see who Paul Williams will fight hopefully it isn’t somebody he’s just going to walk through.
