IBF bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (28-2, 22 KOs) has been forced to pull out of Saturday’s fight against undefeated WBC Silver titlist Abner Mares
(21-0-1, 13 KOs) due to a case of sciatica that caused him to collapse on Monday night. Agbeko was ruled medically ineligible to fight on Wednesday, causing the fight to be called off.

Apparently when Agbeko arrived in Los Angeles Monday night, after picking up his luggage he literally collapsed in the parking lot. According to Alan Hopper, spokesman for Agebko promoter Don King Agbeko was face down on the pavement until the police and ambulance arrived. After MRI exam he was diagnosed with Sciatica.

The fight card will go on at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. Former titlist Yonnhy Perez will face former junior bantamweight champ Vic Darchinyan.

As of right now rumor is Abner Mares might be facing Japan’s Tomoki Kameda (18-0, 12 KOs), the younger brother of former flyweight titlist Daiki Kameda and reigning bantamweight titlist Koki Kameda but noting is official at this time.

Antonio Orozco Off April 21st Card

Due to an unexpected food poisoning episode, undefeated jr. welterweight Antonio Orozco (9-0, 6KOs) had to pull out of his scheduled six round bout versus Hensley Strachan on Thursday, April 21st, at the Fight Club OC in Costa Mesa, CA. According to his manager Frank Espinoza, Orozco had a bad batch of tuna which led for him to feel ill on Tuesday evening.

“It’s just a stroke of bad luck. He was ready to go, Antonio had been training very hard for this fight and it’s a shame this happened,” Espinoza said minutes after informing Roy Englebrecht, the promoter of the fight card, of the cancellation. “I am sure he will be better in a couple of days and we’ll work on getting him on a card very soon.”

Espinoza mentioned that more than likely Orozco of San Diego, CA, will be back on another Fight Club OC date in the near future.

  1. I hope Agbeko gets better really soon. As far as Kameda, he said he can’t fight Mares because he has a fight next month in Japan. ( I have my sources too, LMAO ). That’s too bad because Kameda is a tough opponent.

  2. Damn that sucks I was really looking forward to Mares/Agbeko, but glad Agbeko is okay and hopefully the match takes place sooner than later. It’s a bummer for the tournament I was looking forward to see this tournament come to a close when it was supposed too.
