Manny Pacquiao is schedule to defend his welterweight title against former champ Shane Mosley in about two weeks and though the fight hasn’t taken place Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, is already scheduling Pacquiao to fight Juan Manuel Marquez in the fall.
According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, Top Rank has made a formal, written offer for Marquez, to fight Pacquiao for his welterweight title in October. Schaefer said the offer was sent to Golden Boy’s attorney by Top Rank’s attorney the firm offer also includes a rematch provision in case Pacquiao loses.
Marquez’s contract with Golden Boy expired at the end of February but Golden Boy still has rights to match any offer. Currently Golden boy is trying to secure a deal between Zab Judah and Marquez for the junior welterweight title in July, assuming Marquez wins he will be the first Mexican to claim a world title in four divisions. But again getting a third fight with Pacquiao is what Marquez originally wanted.
It’s just a weird as to why Bob Arum is trying to close a deal with Marquez before Pacquiao fights Mosley on May 7?
The offer hasn’t been present tot Marquez as his currently in Mexico.

@ Examiner Pacquiao cant even make 147 himself, and the only reason they want him to come up that high is because the way he looked against Mayweather. FYI Marquez hasn’t asked him to take any tests all he wants is a fair fight with Pacquiao and Roach wants an easy win for Pacquiao so he can continue to look like the greatest trainer ever. Get your facts straight before you comment otherwise you come off as dumb, just a word of advice.
JMM is only after a big retirement fee just like Moseley. He should fight MP at MP’s weight division and no more ridiculous conditions and tests other than what are required by current laws and rules in the sport. Otherwise, he might as well go back to Indonesia and fight Cris John for $30,000 again.
JMM should fight MP at the latter’s current weight not the other way around. He is the one seeking fight with the champion, he should fight the champion in the latter’s fighting weight.
@ Joe Joe I’m with you on the Marquez/Maidana fight it would be a great one. I think it would probably go the route of Marquez/Katsidis fight but with more action because Maidana never stops coming and Marquez is a great counter-puncher who never backs down. Their styles will mesh perfectly for a fight of the year candidate.

That’s why I was saying mosley have a better chance because u know da PAC man is not gonna move down to 140 to fight Marquez unless he moves up to ww and yea he’s not da same Marquez when he’s fighting at ww… Marquez vs maico maidana that would be a f..kin badd•ss fight….

Marquez has a better chance at Jr. Welterweight and thats exactly why if this fight happens, Roach wants it at WW because he seen that Marquez is much slower at that weight and just not himself (easy pickings like the fight with washed up mosley). @boxingisart you forgot that Mosley is a natural WW and Marquez is a natural Lightweight so of course Mosley would have looked better then a slower bloated Marquez jumping up 2 weight clsses. Marquez should just shoot for the 4th title because they will not give him a fair fight with Pacquiao. At least at 140 it’s only one weight class above his own and Judah isn’t as good as he used to be so I see this as a winnable fight for Marquez.
I believe that victor is a worthy opponent for manny because he has earned his shot against manny .he is a hungry and young pugilist and I am so curious about how manny will perform again such fighter in this caliber .it is better than seeing manny against Mosley for sure .
The big question is, at what weight will this fight be in ? Marquez can not compete well at the welterweight level. Pacquiao should retire if he can’t get Mayweather. Nobody else worthy remains. Please nobody say Victor Ortiz. Pacquiao should just be a fulltime congressman with his Justin Beiber haircut.
You know what Edgar I was wondering the same thing, why would Arum be trying to line up a fight so fast when pacman hasnt fought shane yet.
If Marquez takes this fight and we know he will cuz it will be the biggest payday of his career, He better come prepared. This isnt the same Pacquiao he fought before like joejoe said. Manny’s heavier,srtonger and just as fast. I think Marquez is better off fighting Judah which I think would be a great fight.
JMM seems to be serious about avenging his controversial lost against many .I think that he has a good chance of beating manny ,but is manny is going to agreeable about fighting JMM at 140 or 143.
Juan Manuel marquez is a great fighter but he is not gonna beat manny now… Manny is not the same wen he fought him back then… I don’t know y the fans agree to this fight wen Marquez lost to Floyd worst than Shane… I think Shane deserve a fight more than Marquez … Maybe Shane and Marquez should fight eachother b4 takin a major fight with legit fighters like manny PAC man and floyed mayweather…..
I think he should go for the belt and make history. but then again he will make history if he beats Pacquaio too. lol
