Gary Shaw, Timothy Bradley Jr.’s promoter, recently posted on Twitter that Bradley turned down a fight with Amir Khan which guaranteed “The Desert Storm” $1.4 Million Plus.

Khan & Bradley

It’s amazing how some fighters over price themselves. When Floyd Mayweather Jr. demanded $100 Million to fight Manny Pacquiao, many including myself laughed at the idea but at the same time laugh at the fact that there are networks willing to pay such amount, why? Because Mayweather can sell. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao will break the record for most lucrative prize fight of all time which is Oscar De La Hoya vs Mayweather’s 2.4 million pay per view buys.

When you can sell and have numbers to back it up, you can over price yourself but when you’re Timothy Bradley whose last fight against Devon Alexander was a big disaster, you can’t. Bradley and Alexander met in January to unify their belts. Great idea on paper but a horrendous stinker in the ring.

I just can’t understand why Bradley will turn down such offer. Bradley can’t even sell out a 2,000-seat ballroom in a casino minutes from his hometown of Palm Springs, Calif. Yet he is demanding more money. If you can’t sell tickets, you’re not worth $1 million or $1.4 for that matter.

The only logical reason I can think of is Bradley’s contract with Gary Shaw expires on June 30 and he probably wants to be a free agent. Shaw currently takes a 20% cut of the purse given to Bradley if offered by a rival promoter.

If Bradley doesn’t take the fight with Khan, who knows when he will fight and to be honest, I will rather see a rematch between Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana. There’s not a whole a lot of boxing fans willing to pay to see Khan-Bradley so If I was Bradley, I will take the fight before they realize WTF they’re doing.

What’s your opinion?

  1. The best boxer will fight whoever is the best on their way!
Khan is another rising star who is willing to fight in his division.
There are more & more “Duckers on Boxing Sport”, and Floyd is no.1, anyone else is just a copycat!

  2. It is very apparent that Bradly is a chicken .He ducked Maidana and now he is ducking Khan after he called him out with his bravado BS “Khan stop running stop running .” Come on man the one is running is you Bradly .what a shame .grow some balls and start fighting and back up your statement .Bradly ,you are the coward of the year .How about bradly fights Maiden like Khan did.Bradly is a the epitome of cowardness .what a shame for a boxer to call out a foe and then back out like a chicken .
He also price himself as if he has faught big names .he did not earn a fight with manny .what a sissy .

  3. I agree Khan is a much better boxer and hits harder than Bradley. Bradley is too wild I see nothing special about him except that he gets away with so many headbutts. He leads with his head and to me it appears he doesn’t care if hits somebody. Khan would outbox or k.o. Bradley I don’t give him much of a chance. I agree with Jesus Morales would be more than happy to take that money also I’m sure Maidana and Prescott are itching for a rematch. As much as I don’t like Khan I think he’s better than Bradley and I don’t think Bradley would even consider fighting Maidana. He’ll fade away slowly if he’s not gonna take any serious fights.

  4. If Bradley doesn’t want the 1.4 million, I’m sure Erik Morales will take it. He looked especially good against Maidana.

  5. Just a minute here. His contract is up next month? Is the offer going to be on the table next month? $280,000 ? Has Gary Shaw lost money on Bradley? Is Gary broke? If the answer is no, then moraly speaking , ok, wait it out. Bradley risks his life so he should get as much money as he can in this sport. By the way, he has a very good chance of winning this fight.

  6. I too think Bradley is WAAAY too overrated. I can think of no earthly reason why he would pass up such a tremendous payday. Wait — I take that back. I can think of two; 1) the above author is right and it’s a matter of contractual snafu’s and a desire for free-agent status, or 2) he’s scared shit of Kahn and simply doesn’t want the fight made. I lean toward the latter. In my opinion, Kahn would open up Bradley like a can of tomatoes. Pass up a million dollar payday? Unconscionable.

  7. what are you thinking Ray???? I remember at doubletree when l thought you were the best in your class. Still think so . Come on. Kick this guys ass . Then call for all the money!!!!!!!!!!! Dont stop now . Shut these big mouths up. Good luck with whatever comes next. Just dont sit around and lose the chance to be considered less than what you are or can be.

  8. Agree whole heartedly I moved here to Palm Springs 2 and half years ago and went to his fight with Nate Campbell and it’s no wonder he doesn’t sell even to the people out here. He should be happy even receiving something in the hundred thousands. He’s not exciting doesn’t pack power and too many headbutts. Now this just shows how serious he is about fighting the best of his division. His stock is only gonna drop even lower from not taking this fight.
