Experiencing a fight in Las Vegas

In the Mandalay Bay Events center, a young, rising champ from England schooled what looks like a beyond peaked former champ from Brooklyn NY. It was a great night of fights, but even more importantly… a first for me as I was at my first Vegas fight.

I’ve been to dozens of shows in New Jersey, NYC, and Philadelphia, but never experienced a Las Vegas fight. I saw billboards in prime advertising locations in NJ and NYC and even more when I arrived in LV. This was one of the biggest internationally promoted fights I’ve been to. Although I was disappointed by the outcome, as I traveled this far to support Zab, I was very grateful to experience a fight in Vegas. On the East Coast, fighters do come out to support the fight scene, but nothing like what I saw in Vegas. Within 4 hours I had met Roger Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Tarver, Leonard Ellerbe and Winky

Zab Judah & Kathy Duva

Wright. Fighters do come out to East Coast fights, but not in the numbers that I say in Nevada.

As an Adamek fan, I’ve seen a stadium filled with tons of fans supporting a man with the same nationality. There is a huge Polish community on the East Coast and it is relatively easy for a large crowd to gather for “Goral.” A huge British fan base flew over seas to support Khan. As a Judah supporter, it was overwhelming to feel the support behind Khan who was fighting a man whom is in his adopted home town.

Khan easily cruised to the 5th round knockout. It was sad to see Judah embarrassed like that. In the post fight press conference, Judah commended Khan, and sat hanging his head. Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events, was heavily and rudely booed as she tried to talk. Khan was cheered when he entered the room.

It was a great experience and I truly hope to see more fights in new places. If you live close enough to Vegas, I highly recommend traveling out there for a fight. It is definitely worth it.
