The Chubby Cesar Chavez Jr gets Hurt, Chavez-Hearns Off

Yesterday we posted about how Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was training in Tijuana, MX, with Antonio Margarito. I bet many of you were probably predicting this, Chavez Jr. first defense against Ronald Hearns which was schedule Sept. 17 is now called off due to an injury.

According to Chavez, he cut his right hand on a ceiling fan while stretching out his arms. I know what you’re thinking, that’s the most stupid excuse ever, I know. Chavez posted a picture of his hand on twitter to show everyone he wasn’t lying.

Rumor is that he couldn’t make weight and was walking around at almost 190 pounds when the fight is contracted at 160. He also failed to show up for the 30 day mandated weigh in. The 25-year-old Chavez was listed as unavailable. Chavez was also training without Freddie roach.

Lou DiBella, Hearns’ promoter, got the news Thursday night from Sean Gibbons of Zanfer Promotions, Chavez’s co-promoter. DiBella said he simply does not believe the story.

“They say he hurt himself two weeks ago and then I heard he was sparring two days ago with (Antonio) Margarito,” DiBella said. “People said he was way overweight, maybe 180 pounds. There’s a lot of red flags here so, no, I don’t believe it. I certainly believe he was in no condition to fight. His gut was injured. This was totally predictable, which is sad.”

This is not the first time Chavez (43-0-1, 30 KOs) has pulled out of a fight, he is notorious for this. He pulled out two days before his fight with Alfonso Gomez. He pulled out numerous times against Pawel Wolak. Chavez is a big joke and he is making the sport look bad. Yet he calls himself a champion.

He can’t even defend his first title against Hearns, (26-2, 20 KOs), who has half the number of fights, how does he expect to fight the best? I was more shocked the fight was actually going to happen than him pulling out.

  1. Clowns like Chavez Jr. make boxing look bad. As if we needed that shit, with all the corrupt judges and boring fights that we have had the misfortune of seeing.

  2. i totaly agree chavez jr is never going to be good he is scard that he id going to lose his title the same is going to happen when he fights martinez

  3. Johnny-Boy has it completely correct. This kid has been living off the great name of his father since he first laced-up gloves. And because of his “name” he’s been pampered and privileged. Fans need to look at the actual individual here and stop relating Chavez Jr. to his father’s legacy, as there is no resemblance to his father other than simply father and son. Chavez Jr. is a good young fighter, but if it were not for his father few would even know who he was, and he’s sadly been taking more than full advantage of his family background to cash-in on a profitable career. Wake-up fan’s, stop living the past through this guy, he continues to demonstrate that he doesn’t deserve all the attention.

  4. This kid is a clown, plain and simple calling himself a champ is a joke, he’s so fuckin full of it. I don’t see how anybody can support this chump. He’s lazy obviously doesn’t care for his fans or his career. I hope if he fights Manfredo next he loses ( of course he might pull out of that one as well). I thought David Haye’s toe and Arreola’s weight troubles were embarrassing but this simply takes the cake. I knew it had to be his weight, instead he uses this bug bite ( I don’t see a ceiling fan doing this) as an excuse he’d be better off faking a fever. (again)
