Floyd Mayweather held his conference call yesterday with more than 100 media outlets on the conference call, Floyd Mayweather let his feelings known on a number of topics.

Mayweather was asked about Ring rust, his legal troubles and Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather admits that even though he may be getting a little older and that this will be his 1st fight in 16 months when it he enters the ring Mayweather’s thoughts were “I think I’m very sharp, still strong” He based this on wars he never had to be in and thanked god for his defense.

On his legal troubles, Mayweather stated “things happen in life, it’s a roller coaster ride, and you go through certain obstacles in life” and with a strong team behind him he believes nothing can stop him. He went into a little detail about some situations he has going on with right now. The first being his children’s mother and what may or may not have happened the evening Floyd was accused of striking her and taking her cell phone after entering her Las Vegas home without permission. Floyd stated “there is a difference of restraining somebody, holding somebody and saying relax, you under the influence of prescription drugs or it could be marijuana and alcohol and you’re not 100 percent coherent.” These statements would lead one to believe that Floyd feels that charges against him are not all of what they seem.

He also acknowledged with Manny and Manny’s team saying that they assume Mayweather is preparing for a Manny Showdown since Ortiz is a southpaw and Pacquiao is as well, that he may be preparing for Pacquiao. Mayweather stated he prefers to “hold court in the square ring” as opposed to in a court room (Manny Pacquiao is suing Mayweather for some choice words Mayweather had said about Manny a while back.) Floyd also stated that Manny is fighting his left over’s and fighting guys Mayweather already be after they were damaged goods. i.e. Hatton and Mosley.

In the end, Mayweather acknowledged Ortiz is a legitimate threat, stating that this has been his longest camp he has been in because Ortiz is strong with speed and 10 years younger. September 17th should prove to be a night to remember.

And then…

Richard Schaefer stated that this will be Floyd Mayweather 5thconsecutive fight that may go over 1 million PPV buys and mentioned that Mayweather has averaged 1.5 million PPV buys in those past fights. That is an impressive average and just goes to show that even a good amount of non Floyd fans still tune in to see Floyd get beat and I’m guessing that you will have a good amount of people that hope Floyd loses September 17th.

I am personally interested in the HBO live 24/7 that will air Friday Sept. 16TH from Vegas and will keep fight fans up to date up until the fight the following night. It will be interesting to see how they incorporate fans that are in Vegas for the fight with the TV viewing audience. I think it’s a very creative way to keep the fans involved.

Like everyone else, I am reflecting on what this Sunday represents in America. It’s been 10 years since 9/11 and even though I have no direct connection to anyone from the tragedy, I find myself remembering where I was and how I felt. I could never imagine what millions of people from NYC and DC, Pennsylvania went through then and how their lives have changed in the 10 years since. But I hope those affected have found some sense of peace.

We will never forget. RIP to all those who lost their lives 09.11.2001

  1. I couldnt care less about how much attention or money Floyd gets that he doesnt deserve. I just want this guy to contribute to the fight game, stay active and fight the best opponents. Most champions do that on their own, but floyd has to be told this. He claims to care about the fans and has the nerve to say hes “the hardest working athelet” (two fights every two years floyd)lol please. Who are you fooling? The fans make him rich and he gives them one or two B/S fights every two years, sounds like a bad deal to me. People appriciate Floyds skills not his fast running mouth. We watch to witness his talent and the day he gets knocked out cold(Geez that must suck to know huh floyd). Anyway, he should give back to the ppl who basicly gave him what he has. Just fight man just fight. Or retire, I’d be happy with either one. Honestly what good is a fighter that so rarely fights.
