Erik Morales to take on Danny Garcia January 28

WBC super lightweight Champion Erik “Terrible” Morales (52-7, 36 KOs) will make the first defense of his world title against unbeaten Danny Garcia (22-0, 14 KOs) on January 28. In the co-feature, KO artist James Kirkland (30-1, 27 KOs) faces improved Carlos Molina (19-4-2, 6 KOs) in an elimination bout for the WBC super welterweight crown of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

“Everything has been agreed to. These are two excellent fights,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com. “I think Morales-Garcia is definitely a crossroads fight. Erik is excited about going back to Texas. For Danny, it is an amazing opportunity to fight a legend like Erik Morales. He is thrilled beyond belief. He is going to want to make the best out of it.”

“Erik was ringside at Danny’s fight against Holt and Erik has never turned down anybody. He feels he’s going to teach the youngster a lesson. He feels that this is a very winnable fight for him otherwise he wouldn’t take it.”

  3. I agree with Jonny-Boy. EVERYONE said Morales was crazy for taking the fight with Maidana. He looked better than we all expected with one good eye. He’ll need both eyes against Garcia. I hope it’s a good fight.

  4. I agree. I give props to Morales, even at his end of his carrier he continues to fight worthy opponents.

    Its sad you cant say that about the young boxers today.

  5. Take notes Chavez Jr. and Alvarez, Erik Morales is how a true champ acts, he’s not taking on some unknown European fighter or some has been. He’s fighting a guy who is young, hungry and a legit threat. I wont doubt Morales in this fight, his experience will be the difference. I expect a great fight I’m in no way underestimating Garcia he’s got a real chance in this one. Molina and Kirkland is gonna be a hell of a fight as well. I’m going Molina in this one, the man is hungry and has been impressive as of late. He deserves this fight I personally cant wait I think we’re getting a great card here.
