Devon Alexander “The Great” (23-1, 13 KOs) scored a surprisingly one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Argentina’s WBO super lightweight champion Marcos Maidana (31-3, 28 KOs) in a non-title welterweight clash on Saturday night at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The 25-year-old Alexander dominated from the opening bell and was in command winning 9 of 10 rounds. It was a bit frustrating to see Alexander holding after each blow he landed but overall he looked great from his recent setback against Timothy Bradley which cost Alexander his belts.

With scores of 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91, this was Maidana worse fight.

“He was very fast and complicated,” stated Maidana after the fight. “We went up to 147 which wasn’t my weight which we had to do in order to take the fight. I definitely felt the weight and I was slower.”

Alexander outpunched Maidana 168-93 and held a 149-85 advantage in power blows.

“We went back to the drawing board and moved up in weight and fixed the problem,” Alexander said. “I want to continue to learn at 147.”

  1. I couldn’t stand all the holding from Alexander, but he did what was needed to win this fight. Other than that he boxed really well and I was a little surprised in how he dominated the fight. Still like Maidana but I think he should stick to 140 as long as possible, Next should be a match-up between him and Matthysse.
