Juan Manuel Marquez vs Brandon Rios July 14

ESPN is reporting that Bob Arum, president of Top Rank, said he would like to bring Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez to face Brandon Rios for a possible junior welterweight title fight at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium on July 14.

The fight is contingent upon Marquez and Rios each winning their fights April 14 — Marquez’s in Mexico City and Rios’ in Las Vegas. Arum said if Rios and Marquez win their fights and don’t sustain any significant physical damage, they will meet.

Marquez (53-6-1) will meet Sergey Fedchenko (30-1) in the main event. Rios (29-0, 22 KOs) takes on Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KOs) on an undercard bout.

Personally I am looking forward to Rios vs. Abril. In Miami when Yuriorkas Gamboa was a no-show to kickoff press conference for the aborted clash against Ríos-Gamboa. Richard Abril got right into Rios face and told him he wanted to fight him and things quickly heated when Abril slapped Rios across the face and yelled at him, “You aren’t a real champion!”

Abril (17-2-1, 8 KOs), a native of Cuba living in Miami, claimed an interim lightweight title in October, knocking down former titlist Miguel Acosta three times en route to a unanimous decision win. Acosta lost his world title to Rios in February 2011.

Marquez fan here as well, how can you not like this warrior he’s never ducked anyone and gives the “World’s best P4P fighter” hell each time out. I can’t wait to see this fight it certainly has fight of the year potential. I think this fight will go to Marquez but if it become’s Rios’ first loss at least it was to a true champion like Marquez.

I agree with you EZ E. Long time Marquez fan. Like Rios’ bang first, ask questions later approach. Should be a war. Hope this doesn’t fizzle. Lots of good fights coming up, and this would be another great one. Or two
