From Left to Right Top rated super welterweight contender James Kirkland, WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Erik Morales, undefeated number four rated WBC super lightweight contender Danny Garcia and super welterweight contender Carlos Molina pose on March 22, 2012 in Houston, Texas at the final press conference for their March 24, 2012 fights when Morales and Garcia will fight for Morales’ WBC Super Lightweight World Title and Kirkland will fight Molina for Kirkland’s WBC Continental Americas Super Welterweight title at Reliant Arena in Houston, both of which will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing.
Erik Morales: A lot of people asked me why I would take a fight against an opponent that could be very dangerous. I don’t see it that way. I say why would I pick a fight against someone that I know I can’t beat? He’s a younger version of me when I was coming up; but I’m not fighting me, I’m fighting Garcia who doesn’t have a lot of experience against fighters like me.
Danny Garcia: This is a new era in boxing, Morales has had his time as a champion and his time has come and gone. It’s time that boxing get ready to see a new WBC champion come Saturday night. The referee is going to say “…and the NEW WBC light welterweight champion of the world!”
