The rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson was probably as stupid as their first fight. The rematch took place Saturday night in Atlantic City, New Jersey and at age 47, Hopkins is finally done.

From the opening bell Bernard Hopkins was playing dirty and kept using his head towards the 29-year-old Dawson (31-1, 17 KOs) and succeeded in opening a huge deep cut near his left eye. Luckily Dawson had the best cut man in his corner, Rafael Garcia, who is also Floyd Mayweather’s cut man, was able to stop the bleeding.

“My head is hurting from all the head-butts,” Dawson said after the fight. “I’ve got to give him a lot of credit. He’s a future Hall of Famer, he’s a hell of a fighter but he’s a dirty fighter. But if you can get through 12 rounds with him, you can get through anything.”

At the end, Hopkins (52-6-2, 32 KOs) lost his light heavyweight title to Chad Dawson by majority decision. Of course being the cry baby he is, Hopkins left the ring without giving Max Bernard Hopkins v Chad DawsonKellerman a post-fight interview as he was upset on the decision.

I have personally met Hopkins and being around the media, Hopkins is always complaining like a big baby. I don’t understand how he thinks by landing 106 punches from 400 thrown (according to Compubox) he was suppose to win, oh… wait maybe his technique of ramming you with his head and then holding for the entire scheduled 12 rounds was going to help him win. Hopkins should man up and give credit to Chad Dawson.

Dawson, now a two-time champ at 175 pounds, mentioned a potential fight with super middleweight champion Andre Ward. “I can make 168,” he said. “I’m just looking for a big fight.”

A fight between Chad Dawson vs. Andre Ward would be a fight I would love to see.

  1. Bernard got beat by a bigger, stronger, faster, younger man that had enough knowledge not to be thrown of by Hopkins mind games. I dont think Hopkins has any reason to be bitter, he put in a good effort and has nothing left to prove. He had a great run but its that time, time to retire. It wouldn’t make any real sence for him to keep fighting.

  2. Great job by Dawson to not get rattled by the cut, settle in and take control of the fight. Judge Luis Rivera… GO AWAY. He must think a single straight right followed by 45 seconds of clinching is “ring generalship” I really hope he never judges another fight. Seems like every week we end up talking about some screwball scorecard, instead of fights. The sanctioning bodies need to start holding these judges accountable, or quit paying them to manufacture scorecards regardless of what happened in the ring. Anyone out there have a 114-114 scorecard after that fight? I didn’t think so.

  3. yeah Hopkins should retire – I get that – in his prime he would of walked through Dawson – I get that – but the crime in THIS fight wasn’t an old man vs. a young man – it was ONE judge Luis Rivera had THAT fight a draw – I don’t get that!

  4. Hopkins should have manned up and gave Dawson full credit, he lost and did not look too bad in defeat nor did he look his age. Be proud of your performance (though it was a dirty performance) but give Dawson his due credit.
