WBC super welterweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (40-0-1, 29 KOs) pounded out a twelve round unanimous decision over former multi-division world champion Sugar Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KOs). Alvarez was happy to take advantage, cleaning Mosley’s clock with numerous clean right hands and left hooks. Both fighters worked hard to the body, but Alvarez seemed to win that battle, too, on his way to winning by scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110.

“I want to thank my great team for all the great work and Mosley for giving me the experience. I learned a lot from tonight’s fight. It’s is the first time that I got cut and learned a lot from it. I told myself not to worry about it and that is also what I told my team,” stated Canelo after the fight.

“Yes I’m definitely ready to fight on a higher level. I’m ready for the best. I’ve gained a lot of experience tonight and I am ready to fight bigger fighters.

“I felt I had a great performance. Mosley is an experienced fighter. I know him very well and I followed his career.

“That was the game plan. I had to be calm and take my time and that is exactly what I did.

“I would like to fight one of the two main fighters, Mayweather or Cotto. This is what I deserve the most.

“I wasn’t surprised that Shane was able to take my punches.

“The next fight, you will see a better Canelo and a more experience Canelo. I am ready.”

  1. Great Kid indeed!!!, he fought his heart out in the ring. Despite being cut he held himself together and finished very strong. Agreed he has a few things to work on but keep in mind he is 21 years old. So natural at his weight, and not to mention his strong jab !!!! also glad golden boy is managing him and won’t put him in a fight against someone he is not ready for, won’t like another upset like Vargas.. Give the kid a break he’s well advance for his age

  2. nice combination from canelo and a clean jab but still i’m not convince about his victory co’z he’s too slow and slugish inside and not agree his ready for the big fight, i think more needed a tune up fight…

  3. Kid did look good, but can’t put much stock into him defeating what was left of Mosley. However he showcased good combinations and a descent jab that’s all I can mentions about his victory. Ready for the Mayweather’s and Pacquiao’s I think not.
