Carl Froch Rises to the Challenge, Again

Overseas in Nottingham, England, Carl Froch rebounded beautifully from a loss with a great win against former champion Lucian Bute. Fighting at home after two years on the road, Froch ignited a fire under the already rowdy home crowd. Bute, the betting favorite, travelled overseas, the way a champion should, to defend his title. After the two met in the middle of the ring after the first bell, it looked as though Bute did not know what he was getting into. Froch, who is one of the most exciting fighters in boxing, pushed the action and smothered his opponent with hard combinations. Without space, the combinations and well placed punches of Bute were no where to be found. After being beat by Froch for every minute of rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5 forced Bute’s corner to come in and stop the bout.

As much of a revitalization this was to Froch, it was as big of a wake up call to Bute. With so many great fights on his resume, there are many interesting rematches Froch can explore. Bute has shown amazing boxing skills over the past few years, even though it has not been against top tier opponents. Now that he has swam with a very big fish, Bute now knows what he is up against when he looks to step back in the ring and try and regain his title. It will be interesting to see where both men go from here- whether it is separate bouts or an immediate rematch, but expect a better Bute and an as exciting as ever Froch.
