Ranked number 3 respectively by the IBF, welterweight contender Carson Jones will be flying to England this week to fight Britain’s Kell Brook for his upcoming July 7th at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England, Brook’s hometown. The winner of the clash must fight #4 ranked Hector Saldivia in a mandatory final eliminator within 90 days.
Jones (34-8-2, 24 KOs), 25, of Oklahoma City, his record isn’t particularly attractive, but his riding an eight-fight winning streak — all by knockout, including stoppages of Allen Conyers and 2000 U.S. Olympic silver medalist Ricardo Williams Jr. Carson took some time during training to talk with MyBoxing Fans:
Q: How’s training camp?
Jones: It’s been good. Since my last fight on April 26 I took no time off.
Q: Kell Brook is known as a monster, what do you think makes his fans dub him as “special”?
Jones: There’s nothing special about him. Kell has never fought anyone outside the UK and most of his opponents have been handpicked fighters.
Q: Are you intimidated fighting in Brook’s hometown in front of his fans?
Jones: I’m used to being the underdog. I’m not intimidated at all.
Q: How do you see this fighting ending?
Jones: I’m going to stop him.
Since their press conference last month there has been bad blood between Brook and Jones. Brook stated to Sky Sports News “We’d like to get him out before the 12th round. We know he’s been stopped before. I’m on the door step to a title shot.”
“Special K”, AKA, Kell Brook is considered talented. Brook can take you out with his heavy hands but its unclear if Brook can fight inside. I see this fight in favor of Jones winning. Jones has a great attitude coming into this fight.
Jones is known for his speed, Jones can pop and put his opponents to sleep. I remember his fight against Tyrone Brunson when he finished Brunson with a beautiful right hand over the left jab followed by a left hook. I don’t see the fight going the distance but I do see war! I hope to see a KO!
