are running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to find a dancing partner for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez
who is penciled in to fight on Mexican Independence Day weekend, September 15. Golden Boy even offered the fight to Miguel Cotto.
According to many reports, Miguel Cotto rejected the offer to fight “Canelo” because he is eyeing a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Cotto stated he will return December 1 at Madison Square Garden arena in New York.
Personally, I don’t want to see Floyd Mayweather vs Miguel Cotto 2. There was never any controversy as to who won to pursuit a rematch. For me a rematch is when there’s truly unfinished business or the decision could have gone either way. Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez is a great example of when a 4 battle is a must but not Mayweather-Cotto.
The same goes for Cotto-Pacquiao, we clearly know who won, there’s no need for a rematch. Cotto needs to man up and move on. Taking on the 21-year-old Alvarez (40-0-1, 29 KOs) would have been the best option for Cotto. Miguel’s on the back end of his career and you can’t really pick and choose anymore. Beat the kid who everyone is obsessed with and I could almost guarantee you will be back in the game. Cotto is a free agent and beating a name like “Canelo” will then be considered for a rematch with Floyd but for now Cotto needs to prove he still got it.
Who should Miguel Cotto fight next?
