Unorthodox is how trainer Freddie Roach described his Julio Caesar Chavez Jr training camp for his upcoming bout with Sergio Martinez.

Unorthodox is described as being not traditional or what is usual.

While being unorthodox is a times something be appreciated and respected for having a unorthodox training regime for the biggest fight of your life probably is not the place to work on it.

While many boxing fans got to see inside a fighters daily routine on HBO 24/7, fans saw just how unconventional Chavez Jr was. From the opening scene where Chavez Jr’s camp started moving furniture around his home to work on training, it at first seemed as if Chavez Jr was extra motivated for his biggest fight of his career. Training at all times of the day, working out at a BBQ to a 2 am session with Roach. Chavez Jr looked as if he was focused on Martinez and doing everything is his power to win September 15th.

However what was also shown was his lack of discipline, canceling training session with his world renowned trainer Roach and instead choosing to work out with men from his inner circle comes off less as a motivated champion and more of a lazy and bare minimum type of fighter.

Diuretics have been a constant suggestion by many people in boxing as a way that Chavez Jr has been able to make the 160lb weight limit, while he has been caught previously only speculation and lack of commissions to enforce the drug testing rules for a Chavez Jr bout are the main reasons for the diuretic suggestions now but with his weight issues and previous issues, the questions will always be a constant school of thought. At least until he gets caught or allows cameras to follow him 24/7.

After Wednesdays final presser for Martinez-Chavez Jr, it was reported that Chavez weighed 166lbs, 6 pounds over the weight limit. With only 2 days to go and a unorthodox training schedule by Chavez Jr many wonder if he will actually make the weight.

No matter the weigh, Martinez would probably fight Chavez Jr at any weight just as long as Chavez would show up in the ring, Martinez is a man on a mission. Get back his belt.

With less than 24 hours before the official weigh-in the question remains will Chavez Jr actually make the weight? Tomorrow at 3:30 pacific time the world will get the answer. Is Chavez Jr unorthodox training and work ethic actually successful or will his unwillingness to take the fight as serious as he should show?
